The deujocrotic pluguglies at Indianapolis ran up against an entirely different set of men than those Green Smith had to deal with. Their failure to bulldoze is likened to that ot a wheezy steamer when it strikes a snag in mid

stream.

Some of the democratic papers of Indiana which have I een hypocritically in favor of the Nicholson bill should now apply’ for the pen with which Governor Matthews signed the measure. As yet we have heard of no democratic rush for the quill. The Nicholson bill is one that law abiding saloon keepers should not object to. It imposes no additional hardships or burdens on the saloonist who is disposed to abide by the laws now on the statute books. It was framed with an idea to catch men who are continually violating the present laws, which

e.-.-.iry for Hip. grocer to put screens over his apple barrels. And there are those, too, who think that space in a newspaper may be had for the asking and they are the son that want their tailor to present them with a neck-tie when they purchase a collar. The newspapar is a product, developed from the raw material, and its value and price is regulated by the ordinary law of business.
