There has been some argument here in Greeneustle over the holdI ing of church entertainments and j services at the opera house. Dr. T. Dewitt Tannage is preaching in a theatre in New York and in commenting on Ins Sunday sermon the Adcertixer of that city has the following: “As Dr. T. Revival Services at College Avenue. At the special services last night in College Avenue church an increased audience testified to a growing interest. Rev. The sermon was an earnest and persuasive presentation of the way of life. Bro. Tillotson is the regular pastor at Frankfort, and has been led into occasional evangelistic work, where his labors have been blessed with marked success’ After the sermon, there was a stirring exhortation by Bro. Hollingsworth, during which several rose for prayers The meeting closed with a brief after-service. At the opening of last night's meeting Dr. John moved that the business men of Uie city he request ed to close their stores at seven p. m. during the meetings. This was carried unanimously, and Messrs. Hiram Allen and Alpheus Birch were appointed a committee to see the business men. surrounding neighborhood, the tire would have completely ruined the west end of our village. The store of B. B. Cline, J. YV. Ilillis’ dwelling and YV. YY r . Dawson's house were saved only by very hard work. The fire originated in Mr. Prather’s store, and was discovered at 5:30 o’clo-k. Whether incendiary or not, is not known, as the building was a mass of (lames when discovered. Mr. Prather is insured for $1000 with Miller * Chastain, of Roachdale, but will lose very heavy besides. Mr. Anderson carried no in-uranoe. His loss is total, about $200. The Odd Fellows are insured for about $550, and will lose some besides. This is a se-
vere blow to our town.
