There will be no dearth of places to visit tonight. There are religious meetings at both the Locust Street and College Avenue M. E. churches; Company I meets for drill; the city council will be in session; Barlow’s minstrels will make merry at the opera house, and several lodges meet in legular session. Isreal Knaeur, of Vivalia, met with an accident yesterday by which he will lose the use of three fingers. He was carrying a scythe and in walking on the icy walk he slipped and fell, the sharp blade cutting the tendons of the fingers. Dr. G. YV. Bence dressed the wound and says he will probably lose the use of the digits. The YVestern Union telegraph managers in offices over the state have been ordered to provide themselves with type writing machines. They receive a raise of five dollars per month in wages, the extra pay to be applied on the purchase of the machines. Raymond YValtz has a new Remington and messages now are delivered type written. Dr. G. C. Neale has been heard from and hearing of his whereabouts is a source of gratification to his Greencastle friends. He telegraphed this afternoon from Niles, Mich., that he was still with the Boyd Minstrel troupe and he wired some of the other creditors to meet him at Goshen, where a settlement will be had with the company. The Gentlemen’s Literary club held an open meeting at the resi deuce of Jerome A’leu last evening with u good attendance. Two new members. Profs. Stevenson and Fairchild, were admitted. The paper of the evening was furnished by Dr. J. C. Ridpath, who took for hia subject “Man in History.” The doctor’s paper was excellent and provoked a lively discussion in which a majority of the club disagreed with the author. YY’ill Schiimmer, the Motion night operator at Crawfordsville, is having his share of tough luck. Not long since he was shot in the back of the head by a stranger.and it was thought that he was fatally hurt. This morning at three o’clock he was again assaulted in his office, and he thinks by the same party. The fellow entered and asked Schiimmer what time it was, after which he drew a knife and began slashing. He slashed the operator across his stomach, cutting clear across his clothes and scratching the flesh. Schiimmer then threw a dumb.bell and began
