There were two letters for John Hope, and both had been lying in tho office for a w« e.k. The average mail received at Kolkysvillo Humbert ( ^ibout ton letters, three newspaper’s and three or four tinseab’d circulars. In tho threo mails per week tho number of letters would not go over 30. I could muku a pretty good guess before the bag was opened about tho letters. Mr. Arnel l would have two or three, Mr. Burt, another merchant, I at least two, and of tho other five or six at least half would go to farmers living several miles away. It was seldom that a lettereaino toaperson I did not know at least by sight. 1 had more than onco picked up tho two let tors for John Hope and wondered who ho was and where ho i lived. I had asked a number of farmers about him, but no otto had heard of a
