E. pastor, was greeted by a good audience both morning and evening Sunday at his first service here, and his hearers were greeted by two good sermons, of which they speak highly. It had been frequently remarked during recent months that, on account of the superior ability of the pastors here in all of the churches, a new pastor to follow either of them would have a difficult task. The departure of Rev. Hurlstone for New Albany was the first occasion for observation as to the accuracy of these of these predictions. Rev. opinion about Rev. Dimmitt being equal to the occasion, even in the shadow of Rev. Hurlstone’s superior ability.—Martinsville Reporter. The best meeting ever held in Marion township was that of last evening at the Osier school house. Messrs. H. C. Lewis. George \V. Hanna, James McD. Hays, John Hunt and Ceph. Real were there and all made speeches. The house was filled full, people sat on benches and crowded the aisles. They stayed till the end and were then not satisfied. J. W. Ragan made a short addiess. A motion to adjourn was the only way the crowd could he dismissed. This adjourning business is a funny tiling in this year’s republican politics in Putnam. In former years republicans did well to get a crowd at all, and a motion to adjourn was a rarity for the reason the crowd generally adjourued itself. This year they stay and listen, for there is something to hear; their inteiests are affected and they want to hear it all, so that a motion to adjourn i® the only way to disperse the crowd, and that motion comes
ning, about two hundred being present, of which the larger part were gentlemen. Dr. John and wife, Dean Mansfield, Misses Campbell, Sims, Collin, Lewis and Beals and Mr. Norman Jones were the reception cominitteee. The introduction committee was Norman Jones and Misses Campbell and Sims. Small girls tastefully attired in white received the guests at tlie door and ushered them to the dressing rooms. Altogether it was a very pleasant affair. Bert Bowles returned today from his home at Springfield, where ke has been for the past ten days. Mouth Hre«*nentitle.
