Miss Laura Florer leaves lor Anderson tomorrow, where she has a place in the public schools. Leonard Paris left this morning for Muncie, where lie has procured a position in a dry goods house. Chas. Allen ami Robert John spent the day at Indianapolis, seeing the races and Pompeii at night. Mrs. (). H. Smith. Mrs. Rippetoe and Miss Jennie Black were among today's passengers to Indianapolis. Mrs. G. R. Wysong and Miss Barlow, of Indianapolis, are visiting the family ol Ephraim Tucker. Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Sample, of Indianapolis, are visiting MrsSample's aunt, Mrs. W. M. John-

No particulars are obtainable, Mr. Ader knowing nothing more than the telegram, which came from a farm hand, stated. The death occurred at the Noah Evans farm. Mr. Ader was one of the best known men in Putnam county, and owned three thousand acres of Putnam land. Mr. F. I). Ader left early this afternoon for Groveland.

Dr. J. M. Mansfield, formerly professor of biology in DePauw university, died at Napa, Cal., September 2. At the time of his death he was at the sanitarium for the insane. For many years his mind had been seriously affected, and it became impossible for him to remain any length of time in one place. During all this trying period his heroic wife stood unflinchingly at her post us a professor in DePauw university, faithfully pro viding means by which her afflicted husband might have the best medical attention and the other which he so much needed.

The financial committee of the joint reunion held last week report all hills paid, and they desire to return their thanks to the citizens of Greencastle and vicinity for their liberal contributions. II. W. Horn, of C loverdale, is in the city for the purpose of prospecting for a business location^ He expects to enter the drug or grocery business, and if suitable arrangements can be made he will remove here at once.—Bhiomingteti World. W. H. H. Cullen received word last night about midnight that Mrs. Cullen was dead at Bremen. He left on a night train for that place. Mrs. Cullen was forty two years old and had many friends in this city w here she had made her home for several years. The interment will be made at Bremen. Miss Ida B. Weaver has been elected to the chair of modern languages and English in Maryville seminary, Mo., and will leave next Monday to enter upon the duties ol her position. The seminary is under the care of the Methodist Epis copal church, and its general control is vested in a board of trustees elected by the Missouri annual con ference. The Monon is now carrying the largest freight tonnage at any time in its history, and the freight earn ings are showing up very satisfactorily. This could not be expected of the passenger earnings, as at the corresponding period of 1893 the World s fair travel over this line was at its maximum, but in comparison with years previous to 1893 the passenger earning exhibit is very gratifying. came to DePauw university in 1879, and resigned his chair in 1883 because of his mental condition. He was thoroughly equipped for his work, having had the advantages of some of the best American and European labratories. He was a prodigious worker, and bis massive intellect gave way under the long and excessive strain. He was a lovable man, spiritually minded, and a devout Christian, full of good w ords and good works. Corner Stone Laying;* The laying of the corner stone of the new Christian church in this city will take place next Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 11. at 2 o'clock. Tbe exercises will be exceedingly interesting and will consist of sing ing, scripture reading, prayer, several short addresses and an histor ical sketch of the church from its organization to the present time by the pastor, Elder Mortis. All the churches, both in city and country, are cordially invited to attend. Parties desiring to make deposits in the corner stone are kindly requested to hand the same to the pastor of the church not later than Tuesday noon. Conference Note*.
