The east bound Big Four train was missing this morning. T. C. Hammond made a business trip to Indianapolis today. Albert Graham spent last evening with his best girl in Brazil. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Lueteke are visiting relatives in Indianapolis. Noah Brumback went to India napolis this morning on business. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Jordan are spending the day in Indianapolis.

It is said that refreshments will he served on third base in the game and every man reaching that point can have his choice. That scheme would not work well, however, as the batters would run to third base first and go no further. The Fourth of July traffic is on. There are not as many people traveling these days as in former years on account of the absence of coin which the republicans used to cause to dow in the channels of trade. Home celebrations will he patronized better therefor and thus i the ill wind story will get another

David Price, janitor of Locust ] Street church, found a stray fivedollar bill on the church door that was dropped by some o e on Sunday. The hill is at this oliice and i the owner may have the same by proving his property. Maybe it got crowded out of the contribution basket! Mrs. Adler, wife of M. L. Adler, the west side merchant, died at 9:30 o’clock this morning of consumption. Mrs. Adler was twenty-five years of age and had been in poor health for some time. The remains will he taken to Evansville for burial unless the irregularity of trains prevents. All barber shops of the city will keep open until nine o’clock on Tuesday night and until ten o’clock on Wednesday morning. They will then close to celebrate the Fourth, remaining closed until seven o’clock Thursday morning.

Sprolal to the Uannku Times. Chicaoo, 111., July 3,2:30 p. m. — All employes on the Nickel Plate road struck this morning without warning, leaving the road in confusion. A train loaded with pas sengers was left in a swampy reg ion near Kensington. Reported strikers broke into a Pan Handle car at Lansing, 111., and stole sixty eight kegs of powder. Orders were j received at Fort Sheridan to hold j the Fifteenth regiment of regulars in readiness to go to Blue Island at, any moment. At 11 o’clock this! morning the government building authorities wired to Washington for troops to go from Fort Sheridan to Blue Island. Ft. Wayne, Ind.—The Wabash switchmen struck this morning. Nickel Plate tied up completely here. Lansing. Mich.—Governor Rich ordered the Fourth regiment to assemble at their armory and be ready at a moment's notice to move. Sr. Louis, Mo.—The First regiment of Missouri National Guards has been ordered to be ready to in ve. Blue Island, 111.—The case of San es Marsin, charged with wreck ing a Blue Island train on Saturday, was dismissed this morning for want of prosecution. The strikers are elated over the result. Cincinnati, Ohio.—Edward Pbeland, director of the strike here, was arrested, charged with inter feriing with the running of trains. Dktuoit, Mich—All switchmen of the Union station yards are on a strike. Chioauo—For the first time in the history of the Union stock yards not a car of animals reached the yards today. Shipments are at a standstill. No work for the packing houses’ employees. Chicago, 111.—Prendergast jury decides against the prisoner and execution is set for Friday, July 13. Today’s i.orai Markets.

Norman Bryant, son of Rev. Bryant, had his knee painfully cut yes terday while chopping with a hatchet. The wound was quite deep and allowed the joint fluid to escape but it is thought that nothing serious will result from it. Mr. and Mrs. Bartholomew and daughter Ethel, and Miss Jennie Cooper of Clayton, and Emanuel Marquis, jr., drove through to Turkey Run this morning. The Bedford and Greencastle gun clubs will shoot on the 20th in this city for a purse covering expenses. Each contestant will try fifty clay birds. The north mission Sunday school will serve refreshments near the west college campus tomorrow. The funeral of Hugh H. Burns occurred this afternoon at four o'clock.
