Then Johns, Kahn and a lot of of other Crawfordsville players lined out hits, while the Greencas tie people went to pieces and piled up errors like cord wood. The crowd yelled with the hoarse and joyful yells of a Rocky mountain mule kicking things to pieces in a barber shop. When the smoke cleared away Crawfordsville had piled up seven runs.

Why should Greencastle be a burdock town when these pests are so easily destroyed? If a spade be thrust into the ground so as to cut the root three or four inches below the surface they will die and never resprout. The authorities might require them to be so cut now and add much to the beauty of the place. By all means let every citizen kill the burdocks about his own
premises.
Last night the opera house was well filled with parents and admirers of the fifty young people of the Christian church, giving “The Jolly Picnic Party.” It would be folly for a newspaper to particularize each selection, as several columns of space would he necessary. Those receiving encores and responding were the Brownies, Mollie Frank, and the Misses Bessie, Grace and Emma Grogan as whistlers. The latter received three encores, and a fourth was demanded; and the Brownies brought down the house at each appearance. The entertainment was well managed, and wtts a financial and artistic success, showing much careful preparation. In fact, Miss Hopwood generally manages such entertainments with
great skill.
Thr Fatal Sixth. The base ball editor of the Crawfordsville Journal tells of that fatal sixth inning as follows: Old Eiteljorg fired his speedy curves in and Crawfordsville batters grunted three times and struck out as fast as they could climb up to the plate. In the last of the third Crawfordsville sneaked in a lonesome looking little run, which came in with the surprising effect of a bass drum at a funeral. Then the Greencastle folks buckled up their bellylmnds and waded in for blood. Four clean hits and two costly errors netted Greencastle five runs in the fourth, while Craw fordsville managed to worry a couple more over the ho*^e plate in her half by Wasson’s timely hit. In the fifth Greencastle piled up a couple more and Crawfordsville. drew a blank. Then came that sixth inning. \\ hen it opened the hearts of the congregation hung down like the limbs of an overloaded peach tree The score was 7 to 3, and Paully Myers was at the bat. But Paully was hit by a pitch ball and went to first. Then there was a hit and a base on balls, and on each bag stood a Crawfordsville player looking toward the home plate with the
