this abject lesson lias knocked all that silliness out of him. We ad vise him to work for what he can get but in the future vote for the party which paid him $1.50 per day, six days in the week. Carelessness and indifference at tomorrow’s election by republicans will be almost criminal. See that every republican vote is east for the j party’s nominee. The republicans have a grand state ticket, a superb county ticket; now let there be a majority on the city ticket to indicate what we will do in November. Vote the ticket straight. Stump the eagle stpiare and nowhere else. Every republican should vote art unscratched straight ticket tomorrow. This is no time to be carding scalping knives around or showing sore places. The vacci nating season is past and old sores healed up. Vote early. Vote unitedly for the republican nominees. Make the majority mean some-

Fifth congressional district is becoming interesting. The light against the renomination of Congressman (ieorge " , Cooper, of Columbus, is being waged bitterly, and it now looks as if he could not carry the district if nominated. Until a few days ago he had no opposition for renomination, but now •luilge A. M. Cunning.sof Monroe; Judge Robinson, of Owen ; Dr. Bentz.of Putnam; Dr. Johnson, of Hendricks, and C. J. Kollmeyer, <>f Bartholomew, will be placed before the convention to lie held in Columbus June 12. The delegates in this county were instructed foi Cooper, but it is held this action was informal anti not binding. Thomas Taggart was chairman anil he put the yeas to the motion, and by actual count there were only eleven persons favoring instructions. No call was made for the nays, but “no,'’ "no,” “no” sounded from all parts of the court house. Chairman Taggart declared the motion to instruct carried and adjourned the convention. While Brown county has a democratic majority of nine hundred, it is very doubtful if < 'ooper could carry it. Cooper’s unpopularity arises from his change of position on the silver question anil the distribution of patron-

Bartholomew county’s thirty-two delegates were instructed except three, who remained out of the convention, and will therefore not abide by the instructions. Early in the campaign a combination was entered into by Cooper’s friends to deliver the thirty-two delegates of Bartholomew county to John W. Cravens, of Monroe, for joint senator, but now Hon. P. II. McCormick, of Bartholomew county, is out for joint senator, and this breaks the combination and may cause Cooper trouble in Jetting the Monroe delegation. Altogether the situation is very serious, and much doubt is expressed as to whether Cooper could
