Republicans are packing their grips, getting ready for the state convention. That will be the largest meeting in western politics this year, as Indiana is now solidly re-
publican.
It is a mater of history that every opportunity that has been offered in this country (or the people to record tlicir enmity to the democratic platform lias been eagerly seized by the voters, and as a result democracy has been over whelmingly defeated right and left. There are abundant indications that Grecncastle voters entertain the same opinion politically that is so prevalent universally. Greencastle and Putnam county people are anxious to go on record with a verdict against democracy, and on May 1 and next November they will speak loud for republican
principles.
A UK ACTIOS ARY PARTY. Globe-Democrat. Senator Morton used to say of the democrats that they always rode with their backs to tlie locomotive, and so never saw anything until they had passed it. This has been illustrated so often in their pro eeedings that all readers of political history are well acquited with it. The acceptance of the Reed quorum-counting ride is the latest and one of the most notable examples. There is hardly any other one thing that democratic conventions, orators and newspapers have denounced in such bitter and violent terms as this parliamentary expedient which they now appropriate to tlicir uses and make a part of
