The Lafayette Courier has this week made the most of a grand occasion, the state G. f.\. R. encamp ment. It’s issueof Wednesday had an American ting in true colors as a frontispiece.
The publisher of this paper is highly pleased at the steady increase of the circulation of the Banner Times. Without any personal solicitation whatever, the names of new subscribers are being added every day. Our rural friends are assured that the publisher of this paper not only feels grateful at this manifestation of approval, but we assure them one and all that we shall endeavor more than ever, if that is possible, to give them a superior newspaper—on that will at all times stand by their interests. The names that were dropped from the weekly list under the cash plan we are rapidly getting back, and the system is so satisfactory to all concerned that it is making many new friends. Now is the time to subscribe for the best county newspaper in the state.
Mr. Sweeney Not a Candidate. There has been some talk of Elder Z. T. Sweeney, of Columbus, being a candidate for the republican nomination for congress from this district, and on Monday the Xrim gave new force to the rumor b\- a telegram from Columbus stat ing that Mr. Sweeney would proba hiy go into the convention. Mr. Joseph I. Irwin, one of the most prominent republicans in the district and father-in-law of Mr. Sweeney, writes the folios ing letter to the Journal today which ex plains the situation: NOT IN THE RACK. Editor of Indlananlla Journal: The article in today’s Journal on the congressional outlook in I tidhiiiu L misleading in this: that you announee Mr. /.. T. Sweeney as a candidate in the tifth district. He is not now and has not been a candidate. Many republicans have urged him to allow bis name used in that connection, anil at one time he thought of doing so, but now i bat several good men are candidates be bas decided that he will not miller any circumstances permit his name lo go before the convention as a candidate for tlie nomination. ing subject. He claimed his mark was on his right arm. It wasn't there, and then be remarked that he didn’t believe he was a liar, and then went for the other arm. It wasn't there, so the kindly physician put the skull and cross bones prominently on an arm that was a daisy. Wilson kept up a running tire of talk about prominent Columbus people, which the physicians knew, but strangely enough did not mention the Hon. George W r . Cooper. He said owing to the present depression that his home was now here. Mr. Wilson is in the same boat with lots of Fifth district people this year, that bid fair to forget all about the present congressman at election time. Frank Edwards, of Benson. Arizonu, had four scars and went out on a tly. James Hendricks, a stone-cutter, of Logansport, claimed he was innoculated before he crossed the pond. He was given a dose, however, as the old country rules do not go with a modern Indiana board of health ruling. George Thompson was the last man up and died easy on a high ball. He had a “daisy” scar. The game ended a tie, four to four, in eight innings, with Bob Glidewell as umpire. Dr. Bence uses a separate piece of material for each case and makes three marks .The operation is an interesting one, and the men of the road are not howling very loud at the work. Another Lot Iteeeived. The Banner Times will have ready for delivery on Saturday in our “World’s Fair Photographed” books seven, eight nine, and ten.
