Mrs. Frank Vancleave and children, of Crawtorclsville, returned home yesterday. Dr. G. C'. Smythe removed a tumor this morning from the Rev. Blue, of French Lick. The “Little Trixie” company ar rived here this morning with a large amount of baggage. Mrs. Rothinghouse, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Morton, leaves today for Gas City. Mr. Murphy and Miss Kerns of this city attended the firemen’s hall at Brazil Monday night, so says the Time*. Miss Nora Hammerly has returned from Martinsville, 111., and has taken a position with the Banner Times. The union Sunday school teachers’ meeting will be held this evening from 6:30 to 8 o’clock in the Baptist church. Today’s weather is worse and more of it. March came in like a lamb but goes out in the proverbial lion-like fashion. This is not news, but it has snowed all day since early daylight and there is nearly a foot of the beautiful on a level, and some not so level. Joseph Richardson has filed an information in the circuit court against Roam Lcachman for carrying concealed weapons; and also against Mary Leachman and Ella Leach man for provoke. Irl R. Hicks, the weather prophet, said that on March 26, 27 and 28 change of temperature, barometer and wind currents will result in another series of storms and these in turn will end in general cold. He struck it today. James F. Shoukwiler. of Morton, writes the Banner Times that he is a candidate for the nomination for representative on the republican ticket subject to the ticket of April 14. Mr. Shonkwiler is one of Putnam's staunchest republicans. John Parish, jr., Albert Mann and John Walker, jr., who have been languishing, were admitted to bail this morning and released from jail. The bond was furnished by Calvin Parish for his son and Mann, and by John Walker, sr., for his son. The Judge Brown homestead at the eastern end of Washington street has been sold by J. U. Edwaids, assignee of F. P. Nelson, to Phil. Albaugh for $2000. Mr. Albaugh’s first offer was $11100, hut after consideration be agreed to pay $2000. The Madison band, of Brazil, sent word that they will he here Friday afternoon with a large number of supporters. They boast that they will show the Silver Leaf band what good music is. After the contest Friday evening a banquet will be tendered them by the Silver Leaf band. The Home Columbian club met at the residence of Mr. Maurice Tribby on east Washington street. “Outer Mer,” by Longfellow, was discussed with interest. After the discussion games were played, and after having passed a very enjoyhle evening, the guests departed with a feeling that the time had been well spent. The newspaper reporter cannot be everywhere at once, however much he is expected. Persons having visitors, entertuinments, parties, etc., will especially favor this paper if they will send in such items when they are overlooked by the reporters. Newspaper men appreciate such favors more than the general public think. The third annual anniversary of the Otoe Tribe, No. 140,1. O. R. M., will be celebrated on next Monday evening. April 2, at the hall of the order in the Williamson block. A nice program has been prepared
and will consist of speeches by state officers, musical solos by home talent and will conclude with a dame at .he Hiawatha club rooms. Music by the Montana brothers of
Indianapolis.
The characteristics of the up to date young man, when he dons his sartorial plumage of the spring, will be the creased trousers, creased coat sleeve and creased cuffs. The creased trousers are not new, but the others are somewhat of a noveltj'. Besides these mandates as to creases, others have gone forth to the effect that the clothes worn must fit snugly at the wrist and ankles. Plenty of material may be used in the covering of the arm and legs, but its circumference will he much abbreviated at the termini. The I. 0. O. F. people at the hall of Putnam lodge. No. 45, had a grand time last night. On May 16, at Indianapolis, a grand state celebration of the order will occur, and the grand officers and instructors here last night are visiting many lodges in tliestate assisting the local members in the work. E. G. Hogate, of Danville, grand past representative; W. H. Leedy, of Indianapolis, state instructor, aud Col. Bodine were all here, as stated they would be, and inspected the local order. A good attendance was out, both in the lower degrees and in the uniformed rank. At the close of the work the Daughters of Robekah executed a surprise on the gentlemen and set out a supper for all. James Pierce took the initia-
tory degree.
Last night at 9 :30 o’clock Bob Robinson, Delmar Earnest and Chus. Bray gave a snipe hunt in honor of Dan Pittman. The party started for Stoner's woods west of the city (which are favorite snipe grounds) in high spirits. Before leaving, however, Dan engaged a number of snipe at Keightley’s restaurant where’ he also borrowed a sack. As the hunt was given in honor of Dan, he was permitted to hold the sack on the bank of a small steam, where the cool breezes would soothe Dan’s excited brain in case the snipe became too numerous. The hoys cautioned Dan to remain silent and wishing him good luck they departed. It was near the dawn of another day when Dan arrived in town but he was in good humor as the experience was worth
the laugh which followed.
Says an exchange : “Talk about mean men,” said a friend last evening, “well, I heard of one the other day that would rank pretty well up in the list. He was a merchant and said to one of his clerks during the hunting season: ‘There must be fine hunting on your father’s farm, and I would like to try it.’ The young fellow had his father write an urgent invitation to his employer to be their guest for two weeks at any time he would come. He accepted, and insisted that the young clerk should go with him, as it would be more agreeable than going alone. They went, and the father and mother did everything for the pleasure and comfort of their son and his guest. To the young man’s amazement, when the next pay-day came, his salary was docked for the two weeks' absence. He was so indignant that he inline-
