The time for the payment of the lirst in- ] stallment of the special tax levied by the) National Provident union congress expired , Jan. 1. The amount payable at that time was 50 cents per capita. This tax was cheerfully paid by the majority of the citizens, as it is to be used in promoting the work of j increasing the membership of the order. The second installment will fall due July 1, and all citizens bringing iu candidates between Jan. 1 and July 1 will be entitled to per candidate, payahleou or about Aug. 1.
