On Saturday some miserable vandal nut in his vile work at the Locust Street church. If there is any property on earth that should be held sacred and should escape the work of hoodlums it is church property, but it seems Greencastle contains some boys or men who are mean enough to desecrate sa- j cred ground. On the night men ; tioned above the party took a broomstick or a cane and punched ; holes through the handsomely j stained windows of the church, on the Anderson street side. The windows, it will be remembered, were put in at private subscription by different parties and at a cost of about #7T> each. Those put in

expressed their gratitude to the proprietors of the Daim Banner Times for their kindness in so liberally giving it daily notice and desire to tender their sincere thanks, realizing its value, several kind things expressive of satisfaction that such a lively medium of intercourse with | the people, indeed we all feel- proud j of our Daily. Feeling that it may be of interest to your readers to ^ know something definite in reference to this organization, we would like to make a short statement of its object and workings. It seemsgener- ' ally to be understood that none except the mother, wife, or sister of a soldier can become a member: this is a mistake for while the W. H. C. is auxiliary to the Graud Army of Reputilic and one of its prime oh- 1 beets is to comfort and sustain by all the means in their power those who made such heorie sacrifice for the greatest cause on earth, the preservation of our “Union." Any | woman of good moral character and j correct deportment is to be received and bound to help in every way to strengthen and teach patriotism, find homes and education and employment for the widows and orphans of all soldiers and marines, who gave their lives for this country ' and encouraging universal liberty j and equality, their motto, “frater nity, charity and loyality.’’ Corps No. 23, embraces about thirty noble 1 earnest hearted women banded together for this purpose ; they love | the work, and only feel sorry that j their number is not doubled and more. They have by the hospitality of the Grand Army most comfortable quarters for their work in the new G. A. R. hall. The “tin cup" social was very pleasant and encouraging to both the G. A. R. and W. lb C. The ladies are planning other gatherings of the like nature and hope to be recognized in their efforts in this interesting work. We thank the author of the pleasant notice of the last one, and the Bannku Times for publishing it, but, there is one little correction that perhaps would be in order, in relation to the “Select Reading,’’ instead of saying by Mrs. Ida Black credit should be given Mrs. Ruth Angell Black for an original sketch hastily prepared by her facile pen, and rendered with much pathos and in such style as to almost bring to actual sight and acquaintance theold homestead with its treasured picture of the battle of Mission Ridge, and Uncle Nathan and his
castle have been abundantly blest—temporally, morally and spiritually—1, Charles B. Case, mayor of the city of Greencastle, Indiana, do hereby respectfully request that Thursday, the 30th day of November, 1893, be given by the citizens of said city, in the home or in the public place of worship, to thanksgiving and praise to God, the author of every good and per fee t gift, and that all business be suspended between the hours of ten o’clock a. 111. andfour o’clock p. in.

Andrew Freeman, colored, who has been porter at theTielnap house, is in trouble, or at least he was in it yesterday. Hu was then charged with having stolen a goose. The The complaint does not speciflcal 1 v state that the goose the festive Andrew took would lay a golden egg, or do anything of that description, but it does say that Andrew got the critter. The proof is a little shy. however, and though Andrew was placed behind the bars for a short time yesterday evening, he is at liberty today. In all probability the goose incident has lost Mr. Grimes a warm and safe home from the chill}' blasts of the coining winter. A goose is always a hoodoo, especially when swiped from its roost by its neck, or in other words a man is a goose who will
steal geese.
