OfK merchants are already seeing the advantage of advertising results in our daily paper and are patronizing our brief mention column liberally. They will find ourcheap lines will pay them, as we give them one of the most prominent places in the paper. Try an adlet. The Daily Manner Times is intended for the people. We wish those who desire to advance ideas on matters relating to the welfare of the city would use our columns for this discussion. Short, terse articles on this line will be given place and space under the head of “Letters from the People.’’ There is a movement over the Fhere through | ®^*de especially on the railroads running direct to (.'hicago to have a grand cheap excursion to the World's fair especially for the pul lie school children. The Dau.i Manner Times will on tomorrow give rates, dates and accommodations as will be made by our local agents in connection with the city school board, plans not being quite perfected as yet. It is thought a verv cheap rate will be made about ELI TIM KS Friday of next week, including special train. It is well to educate the children and there is no better way than at the fair.

Hitch***! on tin* .Nidt*W4»lk. There were a large number of our country visitors on last Saturday that could not find room to hitch their horses around the public square and fourteen of them sought the next best place. They went to Columbia street between Vine and Jackson anil made a hitching place of that street. They disregarded the new side walk that Contractor Parker is putting down and hitched right on that, badly damaging and tearing up the same. Their horses were placed in a livery stable by Policeman Donnohue and each owner was compelled to pay a feed hill. One of them got very angry over the matter and refused to give his name to the otticer until he was well on the way to the Mayor’s otliee. No prosecutions are entered against the parties but they will have to make good the loss to the contractor. The people of Greencastle are anxious to have the country visitors but the latter should respect the side walks. This should serve as a warning to others as some prosecutions may follow.

HAS HE SKIPPED? Such in Ihc Oticslion that \V. >. Cox’s CrctlitorM arc Asking. It has been known for some time that the financial affairs of \Y. S. ( dv, real estate agent anil attorney, were not in the best shape, and today Ids creditors have abotit come to the conclusion that he lias left the city to stay. Mr. Cox is heavily involved anil some of Ids transactions appear to have a shady cast, in the eyes of the law, at least. The last grand jury found an indietmrnt against him for removing mortgaged goods without authority, the act being a crime. The goods moved were the machinery and traps of the defunct steam laundry, located at the north foot of College avenue, and which hag had numerous owners in its precarious and disastrous existence. The goods were shipped.to Indianapolis or some other city outside of the county, and acting on that action the grand jury found a bill. This lias never been served, but perhaps cut some figure in Mr Cox’s
departme.
A call at Ids office over the Western Union telegraph office this morning found bis clerk, Mr. Evans, in possession, who gave it as Ids opinion tiiat Mr. Cox was gone for good, saying that lie went to Indianapolis last Saturday and said be might come buck and might not. It is hoped Mr. Cox can extricate himself from the toils that are dosing
around him.
Another Divnr<*<* suit.
The divorce iniU is opening up lively these days and the November circuit court docket bids fair to hold several well developed tales of woe. John E. Wise is tlie latest gentleman to be dissatisfied with his bonds. John will be remembered by our people as one of the most important witnesses for the state in the Ruurk-Sturr trial. John is tired, lie says his wife, Cora E. Wise, lias not treated him right; tiiat she is cold and has at divers times, too numerous to mention, made him get out of bed and get Ids own breakfast of mornings; that his wife has neglected him and is now in Nebraska, where she lias been

The old weather stains, cracks and time spots of Mcharry hall were familiar with many fine voices and had been sung to by some of the best talent in the country, hut the now newly frescoed and beautiful walls were dedicated to song on last Thursday evening by a voice tiiat gave, perhaps, the liest general delight and satisfaction of any tiiat has ever visited Greencastle. Mrs. Genevra Johnston Bishop was the artist and it was her first appearance here. In her opening number Mrs. Bishop chose an aria, “Let the Bright Seraphin,” (Sampson) by Hiindal. She gave tiie heavy oratorio selection an artistic exposition, taking the climaxes with a power that seemed unlimited. Her execution was grand and the richness of her low notes brought forth much admiration. A magnificent stage presence joins Mrs. Bishop’s vocal accomplishments in making her concerts pleasing in the extreme. Salve Regina by Menshaw-Ihina was the most thoroughly enjoyed number of the evening. It was full of grand music and Mrs. Bishop gave it such a soulful rendition that she was recalled to bow her thanks several times. The difficult compositions of the masters and the modern songs alike swept troin her lips in a ful ness of interpretation both of melody
and meaning.
Her first encore number was a Spanish song, “La Zinguru,” by Donizetti. The three songs closing the programme were sweetly given and left the audience in an enthusiastic mood. Mrs. Bishop has sung herself into the hearts of the Greencastle people, and her selections were all new here. Should she conic again to this city she will receive a hearty reception. Mr. Adolph Schellschmidt and Mr. Walter Howe Jones gave the instrumental numbers, the latter playing Mrs. Bishop’s accompaniments splendidly and with much feeling. His solo playing brought fortli encore applause. Mr. Schellschniidt's interpretation of Andante, by Golterman, was his best out of four numbers. He always pleases here. The audience was rather smaller than usual on opening concert evenings. THE CITY SCHOOLS. Complete ami f iiteri*Mtin>f Not«*w From Su|M*i’iiit«*iid«*nt Okk'm Monthly llfport.
