Apple UloHsoutA In Winter. Wo all love the beautiful, deliciously fragrant apple blossoms that charm us for a short season in the spring, and note sadly the bust shower of white petals over the emerald green carpet beneath the trees. All persons do not know, however, how easily these lovely flowers may be caused to bloom indoors in winter. If large branches are broken from the trees and placed in wat.T in a warm, sunny window, they \\^d soon flower, and many of the blossoms will be as beautiful and fragrant as those that bloom on the trees in the spring. Care must bo taken to select such branches as have an ubundanc^.of plump blooming buds, and some of these should ho removed, as well as some of the more

pointed leaf buds.

Wild pear and wild cherry branches may be flowered in a similar manner,

The son of Mr. Alvin Howes, of Palmyra, is considered about ibo smartest boy in this section. Ho is 9 years old and is master of Grcenleafs Complete Arithmetic, having interest, equation of payments, mensuration, square root, cube root, etc., at his tongue's end. He will perform calculations with large numbers readily without slate or pencil, and rarely, if ever, make a mistake. With him a thing once learned is never forgotten. He began to learn geography when he was 3 years old by hearing his brother rocitinghis lessons to his mother, and now it is next to an impossibility to ask him a que stion in that study that lie cannot readily answer. He has a better knowledge of physiology than most teachers possess, and withal is quite a politician, being better posted on the events of the day than

be made to blossom in this way. Here is an interesting field for experi-

I'oisoimmI l>> If is ('TiuirV A distinguished citizen passed away recently under circumstances which will arouse a feeling of sorrow in those who realize how life might have been preserved. Ex-Mayor Samuel C. Gobi) wasone of the sturdiest of Bostonians, But gradually lie began to fail in health, with such elown.-ss that the decline was not noticed nutil it had gone far, very far, but with a fatal sUreubsa that lio medical skill could at the last avert. It was all a mystery. The physicians doctored him for this and for that, surmising now one disease and another, until at the last moment, just a few weeks l>e-foiT-his death, they discovered the real trouble. Arsenical poisoning was at the root, and that poisoning had been steadily going on for years. His curtains, his wall paper, and. more particularly, his favorite easy i-ha!r, were made of material that contained the deadly arsenic, and the poor man had unknowingly been breathing i.i the poison while supposing he was i -ting and gaining strength. It was very sad.—Boston Or. Now York Cimnncrciiil Advi-rtis'-r.
