UNION MAS MEETING. Notice having been previously given, a lar?e and enthusiastic meetin? of the loval and patriotic citizens of Warrick count v, convened at the Court House in j Boonville, on Saturday, the 2)st of Feb- ! ruary, lboo. Alvah Johnson, Esq., was called on to preside, and stated the object of the meeting in a brief but eloquent speech. On motion of Dr. G..W. Ralston, John T. Fleming and Mr. R. R. Roberts were appointed Secretaries. , On motion of Dr. G. V. Ralston, a committee of five were appointed by the President to draft resolutions expressive of the sentiments of the meeting. The following gentlemen were selected as said Committee: Dr. G. W. Ralston, Jacob Johnson, M. W. Bennettr-K J. Baker, A. M. Phelps. Cob Win. Jones, of the 53d Regiment, was called upon, and responded in an eloquent and patriotic address. He met Uie people with mingled emotions of joy and sorrow, joy that peace and tranquilly reigned in this portion of the country that it had not been invaded by an insolent and merciless foe. But he was grieved that dissensions had arisen that party strife existed, when all should be of one mind and heart. That we had the greatest Government the world ever saw, and if it was deslroyed the . h.ope .of .the world would be blotted out forever. He denounced as a traitor any man in Indi ana who would countenance an armistice with the rebels, and preferred tbe open enemy in the field to those who remain at home to fire in the rear. No one party could save the Government it wonld take the united people, and he was in favor of removing every obstacle in the way, and using every means to crush the rebellion. He denounced the traitorous Legislature of Indiana in bit ter but just terms, and predicted ' that they would are long reap the reward of their endeavors to destroy the Govern ment lie spoke of the gallant dead of the 53d Regiment said that no braver man ever bled lor his country than James B. Moore, who fell at the battle of Hatchie that Mr. Severns, who fell in the same gailant actiou, was a brave man and deserved the gratitude and respect of all patriots. He was frequently interrupted by the enthusiasm of the audience, and concluded his remarks amid loud applause. Ihe committee then reported the fol lowing resolutions, which were read and approved: liesolved, lhat we, the citizens ot Warrick County, are unalterably attached to the Government of our Fathers to our old flag, to the Constitution, and to our laws. Resolved, That this war was brought upon the country by its enemies in the Southern states, wno nave armed them selves with stolen weapons, with stolen treasure, and with treason in their hearts are bent upon its destruction Resolved, lhat the old Constitution which the heroes of the Revolution made for this country (and which was irood enough for our fathers to live bv) is good enough for us, and good enough for the rebels to live by, or good enough for them to die under liesolved. That we are in favor of a vigorous prosecution of the war for the preservation of the Union and the Constitution; that it is tue amy oi me government and military authorities to use every legitimate means to crush out this cuuseless, unnecessary, and infamous rebellion as speedily as possible, and 6ave the country from bankruptcy and lmnendinfr ruin liesolved, lhat we win never consent to a division of this Government by 1 . 1 V t,l . 1 striking off any portion of it .hast, West, North, or South; and in tbe lan- . , vi' 1 . it nr gunge ot ola uovernor wrigni, .re are one'Government, or we are nothing." liesolved, That in this dark and trying hour of our country's peril, when our enemies are gathering their rebel hosts together by conscription to strike down this erreat and good Government of Washington, and blot it from the map of the world while our friendi who have left their firesides of ease and plenty are fighting to the death, and are pouring out their best blood upon more than a hundred battle-belds lor us de fence it is no time for the people of the North who love their country to talk about party; and it is our opinion that those who at such a time as this will en gage in party strife, get up party dissensions in the North, find fault with and try to cripple the Administration in its honest efforts to put down the rebellion and restore peace to our homes, are destitute of patriotism; and those demagogues who would build themselves up on the ruins of the best Government thaU tbe sun of heaven ever shone upon, their
future fame should and will be remembered bJ the loJal PePle of thi8 Govern-

Jlesolved, In the language of the old hero of New Orleans, "The Federul ! Union must and shall be oreserved. .i r. IsUQIlllluuuuj, wpuuu U4 LUC lIU tj: ' I - - a : J avairj, was i.uxc cuiieu on, unu AoVtv&raA a enii!.ctirrinrr an. o1nnnnn speech. He said there could be but two parties in times like these for and against the government; they who are not with the government are against it; that there has been from the beginning a party who sympathized with the rebels, in favor of banning these traitors on Northern soil; he was not at first in fawr of interfering with slavery, but the rebels having used them against the government, he was in favor of arming and using them to put down the rebellion, Ho was severe on Northern traitors, and spoke feelingly of the soldiers having an enemy in front and rear. The address was eminently suited to the occasien, and was received with the greatest enthusiasm. Mr. St Clair, Chaplain of the 65th Regiment Indiana Volunteers, took the stand amid deafening applause, and entertained the audience with an eloquent and impressive speech. He was gratified to meet so large an assemblage of the people he could return to 'the boys of the 65th with the glafi tidings that the citizens of old Warrick we're still true to their country. Hetoo, was in favor of using any and every means to put down the rebellion he knew it could, would, and should be put down the efforts of Northern traitors to the contrary notwithstanding. The day would come when sympathizers with the rebels would reap the reward of their misdeeds, and men would learn to expect safety only in firm and uncompromising loyalty to the government The speech elicited loud and frequent applause, and was received with the greatest satisfaction by every loyal citizen present. Lieut Neo-lev. of the 5th Indiana Cav alry, spoke at some length, and in his quaint style made many pointed hits at those who pretend to be Union men, but who are woise than ilr-r-rebels." He was frequently interrupted by shouts of laughter, and his jokes and anecdotes were well received. He struck at Northern traitors right and left Mr. Win. McConneli then spoke, and made an earnest and energetic appeal I to his fellow-citizens to lay aside every thing else and help to put down the rebellion. Judge J. W. B. Moore responded to the call of the audience, and made some brief, pertinent remarks. He was for his country, right or wrong; the rebellion must be put down; was in favor ot sus taining the Administration in its cuorts to end the rebellion. His few remarks were received with attention and satisfaction. On motion of Cob Bates, the proceed ings of this meeting be published in the Boonville Democrat, liivansvilie Journal and loyal papers throughout the State. Ihe meeting then adjourned. Ihe Boonville Brass Band was in attendance and discoursed sweet music, for which they have the thanks of all present The occasion was one long to be remembered in Warrick as the largest and most enthusiastic public meeting held in the county for a number of years. Not one-third of the'people could get into the Court room. .Everything passed on sat isfactorily, and the large audience re tired with the gratifying assurance that the Union element was strong in our midst ALVAH JOHNSON, Pres.
