Schrock, John Lehman and Rev. B. F. Dills, are at Toledo, attending the re-union of their old comrades —survivors of Southern Prisons. " —Several settos uccured on show day, in one engagement it took two two armed men, double-fisted ruralistics, to cope with a one armed lad of Dceaturr—Mr. Joseph Beery, orders a copy of our paper one year for himself and also his-friend, Jacob Swank, of Illinois. K. —ln all the rush at Janies Edington’s, on last Wednesday, but a single “mistake” was made, and that was the carrying off of a small package by some unknown person. —The Decatur City Band as reorganized, consists of eighteen excellent musicians. They have been engaged to play al the Wells County Fair, to be held al Blulllon, Oct. (i to the 10th. —Wanted: —every Republican voter in Adams county to subscribe for Jot'itNAi., and to use their influence in obtaining their Democratic neighbors to read it for six mouths or a year. —Mrs. Hastings, mother of S. G. Hastings, who has been visiting f<ir some time in Decatur, left for Rit-h---mond, on last Tuesday, where she intends to visit among relatives for a few months. —Mr. James Edington, Decatur’s enterprising merchant has gone to Arbuckel, Va., wlicre he intends to visit among friends and relatives. On his return, he will lay in a stock of dry goods at Cincinnati.. —The new school house in Monmouth, is probably the neatest structure of the kind in our county. It is a monument to the good judgment of their Trustee, Mr. Robinson. Air. Cannoven, of our town, we believe, was the architect. —L. D. Adams the enterprising stave buyer, of this place, has fitted up a very mat office on the corner of First ami Madison Streets. Mr. L. S. Waggoner, his agent, will always lie on hand ready to pay the highest prices for stave bolts, etc. — A young lady on show day in endeavoring to get around the elephant at the bridge, fell down the embankment, ami when our rejiorter interrogated her, she innocently remarked, "I am going to .-»< the show, if I bust every apfon string in Adams conntv.” —There is in the northwestern part of Monroe Tp.. a set of’persons who mav lx- safely -et down as Outlaws. Ist, no new cases reported. —“Give me victory or give me death," is the motto of some, and-they invariably get the latter. —There were about 75 stopped at tiie Miesse House, on last Wednesday. 25 were from Bluffton. —52.00 to Cincinnati or Indianapolis, to-day and to-morrow. Tickets good on all regular trains. —Mr. John Mitchell, of Reed City, Mich., is at present, shipping hay from this county to that state. —The statement of the public debt of the United States, shows a decrease for September, of 52.5G>,751. —The Journal has no “poet," but if desired, you can find the necessary article at any drug store. —That sweet little note found on the street on show day, would be a bad thing for a certain married woman to get hold of. —Snake stories are old, but how is this for a radish: nearlyjhree feet long and two feet in circumference, the production of Mr. Pete Colehin. —The N. (’. T. U. elected their oiliccrs for the ensuing term, on last Friday evening. Rev. C. A. Kannouse, Pres.; and Miss Artie numbers. Sec. —Some careless person opened a faucet in a syrup barrel at Thomas’ store, on last Wednesday, and about six gallons of syrup found its way over the floor. —Christopher Gerke, an aged and respected citizen of Root Tp., had a severe attack of heart disease in Mr. Wcllley's store yesterday, lie is now feeling much better. —The mail route between Decatur and Willshire, was discontinued a few days ago. Mr. Cox, the enterprising P. M. of Pleasant Mills, will deliver the mail at his office as usual. —The prayer meetings on next Monday evening, will be conducted by Miss Sadie Turner, at the Presbyterian, and Mr. J. Thomas at the M. E. Church. An invitation is extended to all. —Niblick, Crawford & Sons arc making arrangements to store wheat in the new ware-room, just north of their store. They inform us’ that all their storage room is full to overflowing. —2,000 whole tickets were sold at Cole's ticket wagon, on last Wednesday at 1 o’clock, p. m., about one-third that number of half tickets, and nearly the Inumber in the evening. The county received $2,000 worth of nothing as an equivolent. —ls those men who came to town last Saturday, bringing with them their wives and six small children and getting so full of corn juice that they kept their wives and children waiting on them until they were compelled to go home in the rain, do not want a little free advertising, they must not do so again. —ln the Adams Circuit Court, S« ptemlier term, 1879. there is a ca*e — B. 11.
