Give vs a call\ V oWe are under obligations to Jo Bramerkamp for a file of late San Francisco papers. They were ten days enroute. - We saw a fellow with a “drooping jaU” the other day. He was not a candidate—their droop will come about the first Monday in Aprils jCST A large number of persons from all parts of the county have been in town during the week, attending Commissioners’ Court, paying taxes and trading. Died. —In Hartford township, Adams county, March 2d, of Consumption, Courtney DeLacy Morrow, aged twenty-one years, ten months and twenty one days. — We have had, on an average, about two snow storms n day for the last week, except Wednesday and Thursday, and yet the ground hns been barely covered during the time. z
Married. —Feb. 22d. by John W. Fetters, Esq , Mr. Samuel Morningstar to Mrs. Ellen Belt. March 6th, by W. M. Cellars, Esq., Mr. Samuel Shilts to Miss Mary E. Henderson. jty heard the remark, “There's a good time coming,” the other day, but the remarkist could not say when. Any fool could tell; when the niggers and Rads, cease to rule, the people will rejoice—of course. g3T The Rev. S. S. Walls, who was confined in the Centerville jail, charged with seducing and poisoning Miss Lambert, escaped from jail on the 25th of February. It was supposed to be one of the •strongest and safest jails in the State. Probably some of his worthy brothers helped him out. fST Send your sons and (laugh ters into the work! with good principles. good habits, and a good education and each will work their own way through life without faltering. Do not forget this, fathers and- mothers, who toil and labor day by day, that you mSv bestow wealth upon your offspring. The Lyceum Banner. —The excellent semi monthly’ for young people is in its third year, and must commend itself to all liberal minds as a Magazine worthy of their support. It is as much to be commended for that which it rejects, as for that it makes use of,* for, shunning the monstrous and sensational style on the one hand, and the severely puritanical on the other; it finds a pleasant pathway between, along which it conducts its readers. Special Election called on the 4th of April in Saint Marys township will not be held, as the Commissioners upon petition of the citizens of the townsh’p have vacated the office, of which the Trustee will be officially notified in due time. Saint Marys hereafter will have but two justices of the peace, instead of three as heretofore. In another place we publish an account of the Jail delivery at Centerville, taken from the Richmond Palladium. One of the parties, Moses Farnshell, was arrested in this county, last week, by Sheriff Stoops, and now occupies his old quarters. Alfred Outland J. P. is a fifteenth amendchap, who was to lazy to use the saws with which they cut their way out. Walls has been seen in his old neighborhood, near the State line since he broke jail, but has probably taken safer quarters before this. XST Dan Miller called at the Clerk's Office last week, which, by the way, was an unusual circum stance and attracted attention. Several parties, suspecting him of matrimonial intentions, put in an appearance to see the documents necessary’ made out. If such was the case, their presence put a quietus to his aspirations in that line, he retiring in good order. Dan says it is not so, and we generously give him the benefit of this correction. A lot of corn was sold at the sale of James Votaw, deseased, for 820,00. When it was measured it was found to contain exactly eleven bushels.' How is that for high. —-.Tiny and Adams Republican. Justhigh enough, brother Jones, to satisfy us that the purchaser must have been badly corned. “How's your mother Josie?”— Winchester Journal. It is all a mistake, Mr. Walkup, people don’t get “corned” in Jay county —yes they do, too. Second thought compels us to say we cannot speak positive, until we hear from Bro. Jones himself. He has the matter badly mixed. We suspect he carries temperance tracts in one pocket and a bottle in the other.
To Farmers. ’ 1 We intend j to canvass Adams county and solicit orders for 1 Reapers and Mowers—the best I row made. Onr Agent, Mr. PerI ry Zimmerman, will shortly call on ' you with models of the Machines we represent, so that you can see njust what you want and what you are buying. Our Machines arc ' warranted to purchasers in every respect, and our prices are 810 1 lower on Mowers, and 820 lower ' on conbincd Machines, than you ! can possibly buy standards machines of other parties. We are the only agents for the Mansfield and Kniffin in Adams county, and in presenting them to your . notice we feel confident that they [' will stand on their own merits. . They are, in fact, the best Reapers and Mowers ever introduced. ( Because the general construction . embracing every point to consti- , tute perfect machines is so simple that the most inexperienced person can readily understand it. They are the lightest draft, and have less : number of bolts, pieces and parts I than any other machines in the I ' market. - You will do well to defer pur- ) chasing machines until you have seen ours and learn our prices. is nothing about* farming I which pyys so well as the judicious , selection ot Farm Implements. ! The very best only should be pur- ’. chased, - This will be attended with i gain every way; the work will be easier done, it will be better done. r and the experience of all sticccss- , | ful farmers teaches the safest rule, “always buy the best.’’ We re-
spectfully invite farmers and those whocontemplatebuyinga machine, to lay aside every preference they may have in favor of any other machine, and when our Agent calls on you, then give the Mansfield and Kniffin a careful and considerate examination before you purchase, and we feel certain you will conclude, with safety, to buy of us, either the Mansfield or the Kniffin. SPECIAL NOTICES. The Season and its Dangers. The human body is chiefly composed of tissues and fibres as sensitive to every change in the condition of the atmosphere electrometer, or the quicksiver in a barometer tube. The Stomach, the skin, the nerves, the lungs, and the excretory organs are especially liable to l>e affected by these variations, and the best defence against their disastrous tendency is to keep the digestive machinery, which feeds and nourishes the whole system, in good working order. If the stomach is weak or disordered neither the blood nor the bile can be in a healthy state, and upon the fitness of these two important fluids for the offices assigned to them by nature, and for regularity of their flow, health in a great measure depends When the air is heavily laden with chilling vapors, --sit often is at this season of the year, the digestion should be an object of pecliar care. If it is weak and languid, the whole physical structure will be enervated. ifi is vigorous, the entire organization will be strong to resist the untoward and depressing iutluen:e of a damp and v -tinted atfnospeerc. A pure and powerful tonic is there-fo-e especially needed as h safeguard ugainst the diseases most common in the spring, and Hostetter's Stomach Bitters being the most wholesome and patent medicine of the class at present known, a course of it is particularly advisable at this period ot' the year; The stomach wdltherby be toned and strengtened, the liver and bowels regulated, the nervous system braced up, and nature put in a st ate of active defence against the miasma which superinduces intermittent and remittent fevers, rheumatisms, nervous debility, headache;- hypochindria and other complaints which are apt to assail the untoned and unfortified organizations. The body is strengthened without excelling the brain, and consequently no unpleasant reaction follows its reviving and renovating operation.
