f wfti Earner. “Hoe Your own Row.” I think there are some maxims Under the sun. Scarcely worth preservation; But hete, boys, is one So sound and so simple, ’Tis worth while *o know; And all in the single line, Hoe your own row ! If you want to have riches, And want to have friends, Don't trample the means down, And look for the ends ; But always remember, Wherever you go, • The wisdom of practicing, Hoe your own row! Don’t just sit and pray, For increase of your store, But work: who will help himself, Heaven helps more. The weeds while you’re sleeping Will come up and grow, But if you would have the Full ear, you must hoe! Nor will it do only To hoe out the weeds. You must make your ground mellow. And put in the seeds : And when the young blade Pushes through, you must know There is nothing will strengthen Its growth like the hoe ! There's no use of saying What will be, will be ; Once try it, my lack-brain, And see what you'll see ' Why, just small potatoes, And few in a row ; You'd belter take hold then, And honestly hoe! A good many workers I've know in my time— Some builders of houses, Some builders of rhyme 1 And they that were prospered, Were prospered, I know, By the intent and meaning of • Hoc your own row ! I've known, too, a good many Idlers, who said, I’ve a right to my living, The world owes me bread ! A right! lazy lubber’! A thousand times, No! ’Tis his, and his only Who hoes his own row. Treatment of Odorous Feet. ______ ' Many persons have feet which 1 emit a very disagreeable odor, and j do not know how to treat them; ( The cwttse generally lies in little , alcers between the toes, or a di- i •eased condition of the skin, cans- < ed by the toes being pressed too J tightly together and deprived of air and light. In many cases thedifficulty baffles all efforts to FG- ' move-it, and remains till death re- j moves it. Tire best remedy for this condition is to go barefooted during a few months of summer, when the toes will spread and the I air and light will prodv.ee a healing effect. Where this is nut practic- ♦ able? the dry earth cure in nearly good. Occasionally cover the surface between the toes with a routing of this dry earth. It will ut once absorb the offensive odor, and then healthy granulation will take place, when a new skin will be formed and health result. Wash ing the feet in warm water, soap and water, etc., is not in this case sufficient, as this does not destroy the surface that secretes the poisonous matter which is so offensive. Still another good application, and one that at once destroys the odor, is an application of carbonic acid diluted in water. — Herald of Health. Where to Wear Ciarterg. A handsome leg is a rarity, we had almost said an impossibility, among America n woman. The reason of this is the place where they wear their garters. No French woman, no English woman <>fcultivation, nowadays wears her garters below the knees. It is ruinous to the shape of the calf. More than this, it has serious consequences of another kind. The principle vein of the les (vena saphena brevis) runs just beneath the skin until it nearly reaches the knee, when it sinks between the muscles. Now if this is constricted at its largest point by a tight garter, the blood is checked in its i eturn to the heart, the feet are easily chilled and more liable to disease, the other veins of the leg are swollen into hard, blue knots, Irecome varicose, as it is called, and often break, forming obstinate ulcers. This is a picture which a physician secs nearly every day. With the garter fastened above the k recall this pain and deformity is avoided, but it is still better to near nu gnrter at all, and to sus pend the stocking by tapes around lire waist. In this, however, a well titling stocking is needed.— Book of Beauty. Never whine over what you may suppose to be loss of opportunities. Every man who wishes it may educate himself.
