The Eagle. FRIDAY NOV. ft. IS«9. ■O' Local & Miscellaneous. Teachers Examined.—Last Friday there were twenty-five applicants for license to teach before the School Examiner. Among the number three failed to receive the coveted license. Teachers seem to be quite plent}’ this fall. Look to Your Interest —Sam. C. Bollman, we are informed, has the largest, best and cheapest stock of lamps, as well as, the best and largest stock of drugs in this market, and he defies competition. If you want a lamp or any thing in the line go to Sam for it. t Correction.—The Decatur Public School did not commence last Monday, as announced last week. Some repairs to the school building were necessary. Should they be completed in time school will commence Monday; otherwise on Wednesday next. Not a Black Mark.—“Wilber farce,” the Fort Wayne Gazette's correspondent, has quit scribbling and gone to work for a living; we saw him chopping wood the other day—fact. As it is the first manual labor he waa ever known to perform, we make mention, for we know it will astonish our readers as much as it did ourselves. , — Greenback Advertisements. — Several citizens of this county have been swindled by adventurers who pretended to be “looking for stock,” passing upon them advertising Mcrip in imitation of greenbacks. Persons whose knowledge of money is so limited as to be imposed .upon by such trash should be careful how they change Imposing advertisements, purportto be ton and twenty dollar greenbacks, for smaller bills of the genuine article. He has often been heard to ussert that he was the last of his line, so far. as he knew Like Logan, he might have asserted that, “there is not one drop of my blood running in the veins of any living creature.” We quote from memory. How Hostetter’s Bitters cure Dyspepsia. THE WHOLE STORY IN A NUTSHELL. The office of the stsmach is to convert the food into a cream-liko semi-fluid, called Chyme. This is effected partly by the action of a solvent, c.«lled the juice, which exudes from the coating of the stomach, and partly by a mechanical movement of that organ, which churns, as it were, the dissolving aliment. The Chyme passes from the stomach into the duodenum, or entrance to the bowels, where it is subjected to the actions of the bile, and the nutritious portion of it eonvertdU into a fluid called Chyte, which eventually becomes blood. Now, it is evident that if the great solvent, the gastric juice, is not proaucd in sufficient quantity, or if the mechanical action of the stomach is not cnffleicntly brisk, the jirtt process of disgcition will be but imperfectly perform ed. It is also clear that if the liver, which plays such an important part in changing the nourishing portion of the chyme into the material of the blood, is congested, or ir. any unnatural condition, the second process will not be thoroughly accomplished. The result of tiro failures is dyspepsia, complicated with biliousness. The mode in which HOSTETTER'S CITTERS operate in such eases is this; they invigorate the cellular membranejuf ! the stpmaeli, which evolves the gastrje juice, thereby insuring an -ample sufficiency og the fluid to complete'y dissolve the food. They also act upon the nerves of the stomach, causing an acceleration ot the mechanical movement necossary to reduce the food to a homogeneous mass. They also act specifically upon the liver, strengthening it, and so enabling it to produce an ample and regular supply of bile, for the purpose of convertion the nutritious particles of the CAyme into Chyle, and promote the passage through ■ the bowels of the useless debris. In this way, HOSTETTER’S BITTERS cure dygdepsia and liver complaint. The rxplanation is plain, simple, philosophies!, and true. Sale of Steal I.state. The kidneys.—the kidneys are two in number, situated at tho upper part of the Zoin, surrounded byfat, and consisting of three parts, viz: the Anterior, the Interior, and the Exte-. rior. The anterior absorbs. Interior consists of tissues or veins, which serve asa deposit for the urine and convey it to the exterior. is a conductor also, terminating in a single tube, and culled the Ureter. The uraters” are connected with the bladder. The bladder is composed of various coverings or tinsues, divided into parts, viz: the Upper, the Lower, the Nervous, and the Mucous. The upper expels, the lower retains. Many have the d*sire to urinate without the ability; others urinate without the ability io retain. This frequently occurs in children. To cure these afflictions we must bring into action the muscles, which a.-e engaged in their various functions. If they are neglected Gravel or Dropsy may ensue. The reader must also be made aware, that however slight maybe the attack, it is sura to affect the bodily health and mental powers’ as our flesh and blood are supported from these sources. Gout, or Rheumatism.—Pain occuring in the loins is indicative of the above diseases. They occur in persons disposed to acid stomach and chalky concretions. The Gravel.—The gravel ensues from neglect or improper treatment of the kidneys. These organs being weak, the w.teris not expelled from the bladder, but allowed to remain; it becomes feverish, and sediment forms. It is from this deposit that the stone is formed, anefi gravel ensues. Dropsy is a collection of water in some parts of the body, and bears different names, according to the parts affected, viz; when generally diffused over the body, it is called Anasarea; when of the abdomen, Ascitis; when of the chost Hydrothorax. Treatment. —Helmbold'e highly concentrated compound Extract Buchu is decidedly one of the best remedies for diseases of the bladder, kidneys, gravel, dropsical swellings, rheumatism, and gouty affections. Under this head we have arranged Dyruria, or difficulty and pain in passing water, scanty secretion or small and frequent discharges of water; Stranguary, or stopping of water, Aermaturia, or bloody urine; Gout and ; Rheumatism of the kidneys, without any change In the quantity, but increase of color or dark water. It was always highly recommended by the late Dr. Phy sick, in these affections. The medicine increases the power of digestion, excites «tlie absorbents into healthy exercise, by which the watery or calcareous, depositions, and all unnatural enlargements, as well as pain and in- • flam ition, are reduced, and it is taken bymen, women, and children. Directions for use and diet accompany. Philadelphia, l’e., Feb. 25, '67. H. T. Helmbold, Druggist: Dear Sir:—l have been a sufferer, for upward of twenty years, with gravel bladder, and kidney affections, during which time I have used various medicinal preparations, and been under the treatment of the most eminent physicians experiencing but little relief. Having seen your preparations extenlively advertised, I consulted with my family physician in regard to using your Extract Buchu. I did this because I had used all kinds of advertised remedies, and h.id found them worthless, and some quite injurious; in fact; I despaired of ever getting well, to use no remedies hereafter unless I knew of the ingredients. It was this that prompted me to useyour remedy. As you advertised that it wks composed of buchu, cubebs, and juniper berries: itoccured to meaud my physician as an excellent combination. and, with his advice; after an examination of the article; and consulting again with the druggist. I concluded to try it. I commenced its use about eight months ago, at which time I wss confined to my room. From the first bottle 1 was astonished and gratified at the beneficial effect; and after using it three weeks, was able to. walk ont. I felt much like writing you a full statement of my case at that time, but thought my inprovement might only be temporary, and therefore concluded to defer and see if it would effect a perfect cure, knowing then it would be of greater value to you, and more satisfactory to me. I ant now able to report that a cure is effected after using the remedy for firo months. I have not used any now for three months, - and feel as well in all respects as I ever did. Your Buchu being devoid of any unpleasant taste and odor, a nice tonic and inrigorator of the system, I do not menu , to be without it whenever occasion may riquire its use in such affections. M.
