T he Eagle. FRIDAY OUT. I®. 18tt». Local fit Miscellaneous. Mew Advertisements. «r Land Sale—Hower. Land Sale—Bobo. Land Sale—Bobo. Land Sale—Aspy. Sale of Real Estate—Andrews. I. 0. 0. F.—The following officers of Saint Marys Lodge, I. O. O. F., were recently installed : R. D. Patterson, N. G.; Jacob S. Hart, V. G.; George Wand, R. S.; Sam. C. Bollman, P. S.; Reider, Treasurer. Sidewalk Movement. —At last the Town Trusteees have taken steps that will secure the so much needed repairs to our walks. Last Monday the work was done and upon Saturday. October 23d, the Marshal will proceed to let the contract fur repair of all sidewalks embraced in the ordinance. A word to the wise is sufficient. Lookout for the list. More Woes.—The Jay and Adams Republican has pronounced more woes upon the Democracy of Adams county than can be found in the big book, but like much other of friend Jones's windwork amounts to nothing more than breaking a bad egg: creates an offensive smell in his immediate neighborhood. There is something more than imagination in our statement this time. Stolen and Strayed.—Some thief went through onr henroost one night last week, leaving ns minus a half dozen fowls, among them old chanticler himself — Strange to say, after two or three days absence the old fellow put in his appearance at fresh as ever, having, it seems, escaped from his captors. If we were certain chick ens traveled on a bee line, we should beat no loss to name the thief, as we saw the direction from whence became. Who knows? The Nursery.—This charming little monthly is published by John L. Shorey, 13 Washington street. Boston, Mass. 81.50 per year with extra inducements to clubs. Single number, 15 cents. New subscribers for 1870, who send in their money before November 1. 1869, will receive the October, Nouember and December numbers of this year gratis. The number for October abounds in good things, in the way of pretty pictures and abort stories, for the little ones. Discouraging.—Specials from New York, on Tuesday, report Wall and Front streets having the blues. Speculation is dead, and money goes begging at 4 per cent. No one will buy stocks, and the breadstuff marke t is on the verge of a panic. It is now settled that Europe will not take our wheat ami flour except at lower figures than have been obtained since the war commenced. The re<luced tariff upon the western roads adds to the depression in stocks, and broke is really have nothing to do. Woman’s Rights.—Friend Jones has until recently been an eloquent advocate of woman's stiff,•age. About the time his eloquent articles in the, Republican cease,!, astrong minded woman was heard to assert that ‘they were determin’d to be kept under no longer.” We told him long since this thing would “Sour’’ on him ; if it has not there is a remarkable coincidence in the sudden cessation of articles in the Republican on the subject, and the remark of the virile dame, occurring as they did about the same time. Nrw Magazine —We have received the first number of Hitchcock s New Monthly Magazine,, published by Benj. W. Hitchcock, 24 Beekman street, New York. It is devoted to Music, Drama, and Select Miscellany. Mr. Hitchcock is the proprietor of the dime music, so widely and favorably known. Judging from the number before t>«. this new candidate for public favor will be as favorably received as his cheap music. Subscription •3 per year. Address as above.
Herald of Health.—The October number contains an excellent article on “Hereditary Transmission,” by Mrs. T. 11. Kukler; ‘•What Exercise shall We Take,” from the pen of Rev. Chas. ll.> Bingham, is a valuable contribution, besides a varied fund of in formation that renders it an indispensible magazine in every house hold. Subscription 82 per year. As soon as an article purporting to be of utility has been tested, and it,s merits endorsee by public opinion, unprincipled parties endeaver to replenish their depleted purses by counterfeiting, and substituting a spurious for the genuine article. Some time since, mercury, in the disguise of pills, powders, &e., was given for all diseases oi the stomach anti liver, while quinine was freely adm.nistcn d for the chills. At length H‘>->FETTER'S STOMACH BITTERS made its advent, anti an entire new system of healing was inaugurated. The beneficial effects of this valuable preparation were at once acknowledged, and mineral poisons suffered to sink into that obscurity to which un enlightened age nas consigned them. There have been many spurious Bit'crs palmed ? npon the community, which, after trial, have been found perfectly worthless, white HOSTETTER 8 have proved a blessing to thousands, who owe to it their restoration to health and for many Years we have watched thestendv protress of HOSTETTER 8 STOM ACH BITTERS in public estimation, and its benificent effects ns a cure ftfr all complaints ar-aiug from the stomach of a morbid nature, and we are Cree to say i that it ean-be relied upon us a certain relief and remedy. rp HE KIDNEYS.—THE KIDSEYSI 1 are two in number, situated at tha 1 upper part of the Zoin, surrounded by ; fat, tnid conris ing of three parts, viz; ' the Anterior, the Interior, and the Exterior. The anterior absorbs. Interior consists of tissues or veins, which serve asa deposit for the urine and convey : t to the exterior. 'Die exterior is a conductor also, terminating in a single tube, and called the Ureter. The uniters are connected with the bladder. The bladder is composed of various coverings or tinsues. divided into parts, viz: the Upper, the Lower, the Nervous, and tfie M ticous. The upper expels, the retains. Many have the desire to I urinate without the ability; others urinate without the ability :o retain. This frequently occurs in children. To cure these afflictions wt must bring into actio . the muscles, which a.-e engaged in their various functions. If ‘hey are neglected Gravel or Dtopsy may ensue. The reader must also be made aware, what however slight maybe the attack, it is sura to affect tne bodily health and mental powers ns our flesh and bltfbd are supported fro u these sources. I Gout, or Rheum atism.—Pain occuring in the loins is indicative of the above diseases. They occur in persons disposed to acid stomach and chalky concretions. The Gravel.—The gravel ensues from neglect or improper treatnfent of the kidneys. These organs being weak, the w ter is not expelled from the bladder, but allowed to remain; it becomes feverish, and sediment forms. It is from this deposit that the stone is formed, and ensues. Dropsy is a collection of water in some parts of the body, and bears different names, acceding to the parts affected, viz; when generally diffused over the body. it is called Anasarea; when of the abdomen, Ascitis; when of the chest By- j drothorax. Treatment.—llelmbold'e highly concentrated compound Extract Buchu is decidedly cue of the best remedies for diseases of the bladder, kidneys, gravel, diopsical swellings, rheumatism, and gouty affections Under this head we have arranged Dyruria, or difficulty and pain in passing w iter, scanty secretion or small and frequent discharges of water; Strangunry, or stopping of water; Aermaturia, or bloody Urine; Gout and Rheumatism of the kidneys, without atty change m the quantity, but increase of color or dark water. It was always highly recommended by the late Dr. Physick, in these affections. The medicine increases ;he power of digestion, excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, by which 'he watery or calcareous, depositions, and all unnatural enlargements, as well us pam and inflam ition, ate reduced, and it is taken bymen, women, and children. Directions for use and diet accompany. Philadelphia, Pe., Feb. 25,'67. I H.T. Helmbold, Druggist: Devr Sip,:—l have been a sufferer, for I upward of twenty years, with gravel j bladder, and kidney affections, during • which time 1 have used various mediciI nal preparations, and been under the treatment of the most eminent physicians experiencing but little relief. Having seen your preparations exten ! lively advertised, i consulted with my i family physician iu regard to using your Extract iL :’ul. I UltUs because I had used all kinds of advertised remedies, and had found them worthless, and some quite injurij ou.*: in faet; i despaired of ever getting i well, and dcternr’ned to use no remedies ' hereafter unless I knew of the ingredii cuts. It was tins that me to use your remedy. As* you advertised th.t.t wrs coinjvjsed of buchu, cubebs, and juniper berries; it occuted to me and my physician as an excellent wffibina- ! lion. and. with his advice; after an exi amination of the article; and consult.ng I again with the druggist, I concluded |to try- it. 1 commenced its use about eight months ago, at which time I wss confined to my room. From the first bottle 1 was astonished and gratified at the beneficial effect: and after using it three weeks, was able to walk ont. 1 felt much like writing you a full statement of my case-st that time, but thought my : inprovement might only b? temporary, and theiefore concluded to defer and see if it would effect a perfect cure, knowing then it would be of greater value to you, and more satisfactory to me. I am now able to report that a cure is . i effected after using the remedy fur five : months. ■■ ' I have not used any now for three i months, and feel as well iu all respects | ns I ever did. . Vour Buchu being devoid of any unpleasant taste and odor, a nice tonic and invigorator of the system, 1 do not mean to be without it whenever occasion may riquirc its use in such affections. M.
