ISPECIAL NOTICES. Science Advances. As soon as an article purporting to be of utility lias been tested, and its merits I endorsed by public opinion, unprincipled 1 parties endeavor to replenish their depleted purses by counterfeiting, and substituting a spurious for the genuine article. Some time since, mercury, in the "disguise of pills, powders, &c., was given for all diseases of thestpinacli and liver, ■while quinine was freely administer! d for the chills. At length HOSTETTER S STOMACH BITTER’S made its advent, and an entire new system of healing was inaugurated. The beneficial effects of this valuable preparation were at once acknowledged, and mineral poisons suffered to sink into that obscurity to which an enlightened age has consigned them. There have been many spurious Bit’ers palmed upon the community, which, after trial, have been found perfectly worthless, while HOSTETTER'S have proved a blessing to thousands, who owe to it their restoration to health and for many years wo have watched the steady progress of HOSTETTER S STOMACH BITTERS in public estimation, and its ( benifieent effects as a cure for all com- ; plaints arising from the stomach of a | morbid nature, and we are free to Say that it can be relied upon as a certain relief and remedy. Ils proprietors have made the above preperntion, utter years of careful study and sitting, and are now reaping the reward claimed by this valu able specific, und which they so richly merit. It is the only preparation of the kind that is reliable in all cases, and it therefore demands the attention, of the afflicted. rp HE KIDNEYS.—THE KIDNEYS ! _1 are two in nuniber, situated at tho upper part of the Zoin, surrounded by fat, and consis ing < f three parts, viz: the Anterior, the Interior, and the Exterior. The anterior absorbs. Interior consists of tissues or veins, which serve asa deposit for the urine and convey : t to tiie exterior. The exterior is a conductor also, terminating in a single tube, and called the Ureter. The uraters are connected with Hie bladder. The bludder is composed of various coverings or tinsues, divided into parts, viz: the Upper, the Lower, the Nervous, and the Muctnis. The upper expels, tips lowerretains. Many have the desire to urinate without the ability; others urinate without the ability to retail!. This frequentlyoccurs in children. To cure these afflictions we must bring into action the muscles, which are engaged in their various functions. If they are neglected Gravel or Dropsy may ensue. The reader must also be made aware, that however slight may be the attack, it is sura to affect the bodily health and i mental powers' as our flesh and blood arc ' supported from these sources. I Gout, or Rheumatism.—-Pain occuring ! in the loins is indicative of the above diseases. They occur in persons disposed to acid stomach a ml chalky eoneret ion -. The Gravel.—The gravel ensues from neglect or improper treatment of the kidneys. These organs being weak, the w .ter is not expellel from the bladder, ' but allowed to remain; it becomes feverish. and sediment forms. It is from this deposit that the stone is formed, and gravel ensues. Dropsy is a collection of water in some parts of the body, and bears different names, according to the parts affected, viz; when generally diffused over the body, it is called Anasarca; when of she abdomen, Ascitis; when of thechost Hydrothorax. Treatment. —Helmbold'e highly concentrated compound Extract Buchu is decidedly one of the best remedies for diseases of the bladder, kidneys, gravel, dropsical swellings, rheumatism, and , gouty affections. Under this head we have arranged Dyruria, or difficulty and pain in passing water, scanty secretion or small and frequent discharges of water; Stranguary, or stopping of water; Acrmaturia, or bloody urine; Gout and Rheumatism of the kidneys, without any change in the quantity, but increase of color or dark water. It was always highly recommended by the late Dr. Physick, in these affections. The medicine increases she power of digestion, excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, by which the watery or calcareous, depositions, ami ail unnatural enlargements, as well as pain and inhumation, are reduced, and it is taken by men, women, ami children. Directions for use and Het accompany. Philadelphia, Pe.. Feb. 25,'67. 11. T. Helmbold, Druggist: Dear Sih:—l have been a sufferer, for < upward of twenty years, with gravel bladder, ami kidney affections, during which time I Ji.ave used various medicinal nd been under the I treatment of the most eminent physicians experiencing but Tittle relief. Having seen your preparations extern ii rely advertised. I consulted with my family physician in regard to using your Extract Buelii. I did this because 1 had used all kinds of advertised remedies, and had found them worthless, and some quite injurious; in fact; I despaired of ever getting well, and detei nrned to use no remedies hereafter unless 1 knew of the ingredients. It was this that prompted me to use your remedy. As you advertised that it wus composed of buchu, cubebs, and juniper berries; it occured to me and my physician as an excellent combination, and, with his advieo; after an examination of the article; and consulting again with the druggist, 1 concluded to try it. 1 commenced its use about eight months ago, at which time I wss confined to my room. From the first bottle 1 was astonished ami gratified at the I beneficial effect; and after using it three weeks, was able to walk out. 1 felt much like writing you a full statement of my case at that time, but thought niy inproveinent might only be temporary, ami therefore concluded to defer and see if it would effect a perfect cure, knowing then it would be of greater value to you, and more satisfactory to me. I am now able to report that a cure is effected after using the remedy for fivo months. I have not used any now for three months, and feel as well in all respects as 1 ever did. Your Buchu Iteing devoid of any unpleasant taste and odor, a nice tonic and invigorator of the system, I do not mean to be without it whenever occasion may riquire its use in such affections. M.
