The Eagle, FRIDAY SEI’I'.IO. 1N69. Local & Miscellaneous. New Advertisements. Administrator’s Sale—Fravel. Attachment —Nelton. Court Common Pleas.—The Court of Common Pleas commences on Monday, with fifty-two cases on the docket, thirty-three of whice are new cases. The Probate docket is small.
Change of Firm.—David Showers has sold his interest in the Fornax Mills to F. W. Miesse. The transfer took place Monday The firm now consists of Mickle, Chubb <fc Miesse. I i -— „ Commissionerr First District. -‘-Mr. George Luckey, Commissioner elect of the First District, was sworn into office and took his seat as a member of the Board on Monday morning, taking the place of Conrad Reinking, of Preble. Three Months Free.—The pub lishers of Merry's Museum offers to send that popular magazine three mouths free to any one who wishes to examine it. Address Horace B. Fuller, Publisher, 14, Bromfield Street, Boston. Sowing Wheat.—Our farmers arc very busy just now sowing wheat. The rain Monday come very opportunely as previously it was too dry to plow or sow. The success of this season’s crops has encouraged farmers to sow a considerable more than the average number of acres.
Dwelling Burned —The residence of Mr. Jacob Fonner, of Root towhship, was burned on Saturday night. The fire was communicated to the building through a defect in the connection of the stovepipe with the chimney. The building was a one story faame, not insured. Mostofthe furniture was saved;
Prompt—A very good practice adopted in the payment of subscription to newspapaer is recorded by the Holmes County Farmer. A Mr. Ax has regularly lor ten years, on a certain day, at a certain hcur, paid his subscription to that paper. What a happy day it would be to county luiiYspaper publishers if all their subscribers would model after that excellent supporter of his home paper.— Lima Democrat.
Pic Nic Wednesday.—ln consequence of unfavorable weather the attendance was not as large as had been anticipated. In proportion to the attendance, the receipts, however, were large. Remarks were made by Messrs. J. R. Bobo, D. D. Heller and Judge Studa baker. A cake was voted to Father Wemhoff, Rev Wilkinson and Father Woest, of Hesse Cassel being competitors. The dinner was exclient; and everything passed off pleasantly to all concerned.
An exchange well says that there are many persons who either take no paper at all, or else take one from a distant city, and wheu they wish to see what is transpiring in their own neighborhood, they beg or steal the local paper from some citizen more liberal than themselves. Many men of this "kind are engaged in business, and frequently grumble because people do not patronize “home industry,” when they practice the very thing of which they complain.
Change Officials.—Mr. Jesse Niblick, county Treasurer, de livered to his successor in office, Mr. John Meibers, the keys of his office, bn Monday. Mr. Niblick accounted in a satisfactory manner to the Board of Commissioners for all of the people's monej* that came into his hands, as has been customary with the long line of Democratic Treasurers of Adams county, aud quite in contrast with , radical stealing the country over. The people of Adams county, and especially the Democratic party thereof, have cause to congratulate themselves upon the honest administration of their finances by their chosen servants. _
About “Preachers.”—We overheard a business man make the remark, a few days since, that he had lost through “preachers,” on an average, about fifty dollars a year, since he had been in business. “Do you think,” said we, “that ‘preachers’ are dishonest?” “O, no,” said he, “they are not dishonest, but they do not get paid.” We saw it in a moment. Here is a church, there is a church, scattered all over our land. There is at least thirty churches in this county , with probably twenty “preachers,” whom their several congregations promise to pay an annual salary, of from two to five hundred dollars. There is but one now in the county, the pastor of the Catholic Congregation of Decatur, whose salary is in excess of the highest sum named. Os these twenty probably one-third receive their pay in full, the remainder get what they can, and live by practicing the severest economy. On the strength of what is promised them they contract debts; they are compelled to do this; they are neither paid in advance nor paid quarterly ;. it is a matter of necessity. At the close of the year they are not paid; and consequently cannot make good their promises, and business men with whom they deal must necessarily suffer loss.
In most instances the salaries of ministers will hardly furnish them with the necessaries of life, saying nothing of the luxuries, if paid in full. Church organizations should then be very careful to make no engagements that they cannot fulfill. The sense of humiliation that a conscicncions Christian minister must fed, with debts hanging over him that he is utterlyAmable to liquidate, we feel inadequate to describe and shall not make the attempt. Neither shall we estimate how many of the poor sermons, that brother so and so, who is behind with quarterage, complained of, is attributable to this source. A good article of faith will carry a minister a good ways along the journey of life; but unless there is a proper amount of “bread and butter” mixed with it, sooner or later he will fall by the wayside. Besides, wc think no brother or sister can really enjoy their church privileges, unless they have paid their minister. At all events, we recommend that this little matter Ibe attended to. Our suggestion is worthy a trial; if it fails we don't think you have any business being a church member.

SPECIAL NOTICES. rp HE kIDNEYS. THE KIDNEYS I are two in number, situated at tho upper part of the toin, surrounded by fat, and consising of three parts, vii: the Anterior, the Interior, and the Exterior. The anterior absorbs. Interior conI sists of tissues or veins, which serve as a ; deposit for the urine and convey >t to the exterior. z The exterior is a conductor also, terminating in a single tube, and called the Ureter. The uratere are cjunected with the bladder. The bludder is composed of various coverings or t insues, divided into parts, viz: the Upper, the Lower, the Nervous, and the Mucous. The upper lower retains. Many have the to (yinatc.without the ability, othffFnri"nate without the ability to retain? This frequently occurs in children. To cure these afflictions we must bring into action the muscles, which aee engaged in their various functions. If they are neglected Gravel or Dropsy may ' ensue. The reader must also be made aware, that however slight may be the attack, it is sura to affect the bodily health and mental powers' as our flesh and blood are supported from these sources. Goct, oa RfixvM triaw.^—Pain oecuring in the loins ia indicative of the above disease*. They occur in persons disposed to acid stomach and chalky concretions. Tub Gravkl.—The gravel ensues from region or improper treatment of ths
kidneys. These organs being weak, the is not expelled from the bladder, but allowed to remain; it becomes feverish, and sediment forms. It is from this deposit that.the stone is formed, and gravel ensues. Dropsy is a collection of water in some parts of the body, and bears different names, according to the parts affected, viz; when generally diffused over the body, it is called Anasarea; jvlien of the abdomen, Ascitis; when of the chast Hydrothorax. Treatment.—Helmbold'e highly concentrated compound Extract Buchu is decidedly one of the best remedies for diseases of the bladder, kidneys, gravel, dropsical swellings, rheumatism, and gouty affections. Under this bead we have arranged Dyruria, or difficulty and pain in paseing water, -scanty secretion or small and frequent discharges of water; Stranguary, or stopping of water; Aermaturia, or LlAody urine; Gout and Rheumatism of the kidneys, without any change in the quantity, but increase of color or dark water. It was always highly recommended by the late Dr, Physick, in these affections. The medicine increases the power of digestion, excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, by which the watery or calcareous, depositions, and all unnatural enlargements, as well as pain and inflamation, are reduced, and it is taken by women, and children. Directions for use and.diet accompany. Philadelphia, l’e., Feb. 25, ’67. 11. T. Helmbold, Druggist: Dea& Sir:—l have been a sufferer, for upward of twenty years, with gravel bladder,’arid kidney affections, during which time I have used various medicinal preparations, and been under the treatment of the most eminent physicians experiencing but little relief. Having seen your preparations extensively advertised, I consulted with my family physician in regard to using your Extract Buchu. I did this because I hid used all kinds of advertised remedies, and had found them worthless, and some quite injurious; in fact; I despaired of ever getting well, and deternrned to use no remedies hereafter unless I knew of the ingredients. It was this that prompted me to use your remedy. As you advertised that it wes composed of buchu, cubebs, and juniper berries; it occured to me and my physician as an excellent combination. and, with his advice; after an examination of the article; and consulting again with the druggist, I concluded to try it. I commenced its use about eight months ago, at which time I wss confined to my room. From the first bottle I was astonished and gratified at the beneficial effect; and after using it three weeks, was aide to walk out. I felt much like writing you a full statement of my case at that time, but thought my improvement might only be temporary, and therefore concluded to defer and see if it would effect a perfect cure, knowing then it would be of greater value to you, and more satisfactory to me. I am now aide to report that a cure is effected after using the remedy for five months. I have not used any now for three months, and feel as well in all respects as 1 ever did. Yotii Buchu being devoiil of any unpleasant taste and odor, a nice tonic and invigorator of the system, I do not mean to be without it whenever occasion may riquirc its use in such affections. M. As soon as an article purporting to be of utility has been tested, and its merits endorsed by public opinion, unprincipled parties endcaver to replenish their depleted purses by counterfeiting, and substituting a spurious for the genuine article. Some time since, mercury, in the disguise of pills,powders, &c., was given for all diseases of the stomach and liver, while quinine was freely administered for the chills. At length HOSTETTER S STOMACH BITTER S made its advent, and an entire new system of healing was inaugurated. The beneficial effects of this valuable preparation were at once acknowledged, and mineral poisons suffered to sink into that obscurity to which an enlightened age has consigned them. There have been many spurious Bitters palmed utmn the community, which, after trial, have been found perfectly worthless, while HOSTETTER S have proved a blessing to thousands, who owe to it their restoration to health and for many years we have watched the steady progress of HOSTETTER’S STOMACH BITTERS in public estimation, and its benificent effects as a cure for all complaints arising from the stomach, of a morbid nature, and we are free to say that it can be relied upon as a certain relief and remedy.
