THE EAGLE. FRIDAY, JUNE IS, IS6». Local & Miscellaneous. lew Advertisements. Notice of Survey—Peterson. ■ 1-- - - - . JE9"Tiie Auditor’s Report will appear next week. JOT The all-absorbing topic is, what is Decatur going to do with the 4th of July ? Strawberry Festival .—The members and friends of the M. E. Church, of Decatur, will hold a Strawberry Festival on Wednesday evening next, Juno 24th All are invited to attend. Admission, Id cents. JOT Do not fail to read the Fruit House price list this week. White is preparing for harvest. Farmers would do well to call upon him for supplies. It will be observed, with a few exceptions, groceries arc down to old prices before the war. JOT Sheriff Stoops arrested Lafayette Riley, in Jay county, last week, and provided quarters for him in the Wells county jail. Riley was indicted at the last term of the Circuit Court, for assisting John W. Williams to escape from the county jail. David Showers was followed from Bollman’s corner to within a short’ distance of his residence, in the upper part of town, ou Saturday night, by a couple of Stispicfdds characters, who doubtless intended to force him to “stand and deliver.” Mr. Showers, observing their motions, avoided a collision by making time. A little cold lead would be a good prescription in such a contingency. Harry Ayers, of Ft. Wayne and Thus. Adelsverger, of Decatur, have recently purchased the drug establishment of Messrs. Bri ssik <fc Robinson, in Laporte. They are both young men of unquestioned integrity. Whatever their success may be, we feel eon lident they will be found deserving the confidence of the people whom they have cast their lot with, as upright, honorable men, in all the relations of life. Mr. Aters has had unusual facilities for qualifying himself as u practical druggist, having been employed in responsible positions in some of the best establishments of Fort Wayne.
JM" Cold weather, with a Continual succession of heavy rains, has rendered it nearly impossible to plant corn this spring. Last week we had occasion to pass through a portion of Merger county, Ohio. In several places the fanners were planting the high ground in certain fields, while-the lower portion was submerged in water. Corn that had been planted early looked yellow and stunted. Many fanners, determined to wait for favorable weatner, arc planting this week. Take it all around, we have not known ns poor n prospect for corn fora long time., Oats, flai and wheat look well. Bvkglakt.—A bold and daring burglary took place on Saturday night Between ten and eleven o'clock Frank Miesse's grocery was entered from the second story of Sehonneycr’s building; the burglars descending thence to the first floor and entered Miesse’s grocery by borcing a hole in a door that communicates between the two buildings. They took out the desk, carried if behind the Court House, and rifled it of its contents, accruing about seventy-five dollars in greenbacks. Judgingfrom the time and manner in which the building was entered, there is no douht but the burglary was committed by parties who were familiar with the building, and who well knew the proprietor was temporarily absent. Several burglaries of a similar character committed in town within the past two years, and in each instance the time, place and circumstances under which they were effected in dicate that they were perpetrated by parties who were familiar with < the buildings and the habits of the ' occupants. It is said to be a long lane that has no turn. We hope :' the parties guilty of these bnrgla-'
ries will soon reach that turn and be switched off to Michigan City, as a reward for their illegal enterprise. * Gone to Decatur.—Mr. Chas. Black, foreman of this office has gone to Decatur to “ boss things” in the Eagle office. In parting with Charley we feel the loss of ofie who has at all time and under all circumstances performed the duties of a true printer and a citizen. We congratule Bro. Hill in thus securing the services of a foreman who is able and willing to execute all that devolves upon a workman in the “art preservative, and whose qualifiations in that line arc of the first order. Wishing Mr. Black every success known to the printer’s language, we will say ‘goodjiye,’ assuring him a cordial welcome when'er he comes this way.—-,7«y Ilepitbli can. fest' There is no change to report in the wool inllket—3o@4o is about the range. The following we clip from the Chicago Times of the 16th:

John B. Bridgland, formerly of Richmond, has been appointed Internal Revenue Supervisor for the State of Texas. The Hamilton llegislcr says: “The Indianpolis Paper Company recently filled an order for five hundred bundles of news paper for Montana. And while we were at the mills recently they were silling a large order for a St. Louis firm. Indianapolis is rapidly taking rank among the manufacturing cities of the country.” — — —- M —— A colored sorsis is known to have an evistoncc in this city. This fragrant organization eTopped out with the flowers of June, and it was not until a few days ago that an enterprising reporter got scent of it.— Sentinel. The Peru He.ptfMican says Jackson Fennel, living'near Wooloytown in Miami county, gave birth to three infant girls, ou Mon day of this week, - They are all alive and well. A youth of 18, in New Bedford, who determined to piarry against his father's will, was recently complained of as a disobedient child, and the case continued for sentence, so that he could be shut up for want of bail till his father gets ready to take him on a whaling voyage.
