Hearth and Home—Published hy S. M. Pettingill & Co., 37 Park Row, New York, is a first class journal in every particular. It contains the best literary articles that can be produced, and the information k gives on all goner nl topics, is the most reliable. A new illustrated story entitled "Marrying Well" will be commenced in the next number. We commend the paper to tire public, as well worthy of patronage. O'Much rain during the week stopped planting and gave farmers the blues. A large portion of the corn-will have to be replant cd, The- Wabash and St. Marys have both been very high, the latter within two and a half feet of extreme high water mark. Bridges have been washed away on many of the smaller streams,' interfering considerably with- communication with the country. Wheat and oats in the river and creek bottoms has been drowned out, but we have means of c»tinia ting the damage.
/tSTLovers of Ice Cream will find the some, at all times, day or night, at Martin’s Bakery. Give him * call. larry Scott & Co’s exhibition at the Court House, last night, was one of the best entertainments of the kind that has exhibited here for ,years. Those who failed to attend last night should be on hand to night. REFKfesniXG —A few days ago, one of our citizens was seen rush ing through the street with a five dollar greenback in his hand, in search of a man to whom he owed that amount, and expressed his determination to pursue him to the ends of the earth, rather than the debt should longer remain unpaid. It is truly refreshing in these times, when the great ty of every one to get possession of this world’s goods, seems to be the one great object of life, to see even one man manifest such a commendable anxiety to pay his debts. It is a worthy example to follow. Grace Greenwood has sold-hcr “Little Pilgrim" to Alfred L. Sewell & Co., Publishers of “The Little Corporal,” of Chicago. The Pilgrim has been published as a children’s magazine for over fifteen years, and has been a popular juvenile, but will now stop “pilgrimaging” on his own account, a id hereafterbe an ‘aide’ to the conquering Western Napoleon The Little Corporal, the well deserved circulation of which was even before this addition larger thav that of any other juvenile magazine in the world. Grace Greenwood still writes for it. The July number begins a new volume, and we advise our friends to scud on to the publishers, at once, one dollar, which is the price for one year, and give their children this unique, original magtfzine, which has no superior anywhere, Those who subscribe during June, will receive th® Jun; number extra. Thomas Boyd, one of the garrison nt Fort McHenry when bombarded by the British in 1814, died in Baltimore on Friday.
