Married.—Feb.* 11, by Justus Kelly, Esq , Mr. George W. Carr to Miss Alautha Courtright. m - »■ Monroeville Hack has failed to make its regular trips this week The mud renders the roads almost impassable. The President has ordered the remains of Mrs. Surratt and J. Wilkes Booth to be delivered to their respective friends. JSTLast Saturday wo noticed something like about one hundred saddlehorses in town. We took it as some indication of the condition of the roads. /ST Yesterday the preliminary survey of C. R. <t Ft. W. Railroad, between Ft. Wayne and Decatur, was commenced at the former place. £ST After considerable discussion pro and the Radicals of Washington, it has been de cided that a negro is good enough to vote “our” ticket, but he can’t attend the inauguration ball. - Thanks. —A sack oj XXX fain ily flour, bearing the brand of the Decatur Mills, was left at the residence us Thos. Adelsperger, a few days since, for which the proprietors, Messrs. Hart A' Patterson, have his thanks. JfM*On account of the almost impassable condition of the roads, wc were without any mail from Saturday until Wednesday night. For the same reason the Monroeville Hack did not make its regular trip Monday and Tuesday. „ JtyThe Measels are making‘ho “gran 1 rounds” of our town, and from the number of cases report* d there will, without doubt, be enough to go around and slight none. They have assumed an epidemic form, hut fortunately for the “little ones,” yield readily to proper treatment. So far no deaths arc reported. The primary department of the public school is to be suspended for two weeks on account of their prevalence. Jt-jFAttention is invited to the ■card of Dr. S. C. Ayers, of Fort Wayne. He makes diseases of the Ear and Eye a specialty. Those requiring treatment of either of these organs will consult their interest by giving the doctor a call. He inserts artificial eyes when dewired. We take pleasure in recommending him to the afflicted rs a skillful practitioner, and a gentleman worthy of their patronage. The doctor is permanently located in Fort Wayne. 1 jtSTThere was a sale of personal property at the Miesse House on Saturday last. It was an artful dodge of the proprietor of ex-■ changing old furniture for new. The story that is being circulated that the Miesse House is a defunct institution is a mistake. Additions are being made to its furni ture, furnishing increased facilities In the way of accommodations and comforts to the guests. The Miesse House is a permanent and necessary establishment to our place. Marriage Extraordinary.—! The following recently appeared among the marriage notices in j the Omaha Republican: “Cox-Harrimgton.—On the east half of the north-west quarter I of section twentv-two-(22), town- i ship twenty -one (21), north, of I ranre eleven (11), east, in an open sleigh, and under an open and un-i clouded canopy, by Rev. R. <fc Ft. W. Railroad. /grPresident Parry of the Cincinnati Richmond and Ft. Wayne Railroad was in town last week. He filed in the Clerk’s office a profile of the road through this county and the certificate of a majority of the Directors of the road that the Company would adopt the line via Portland and Decatur. Parry s?ems to be confident the ro d will be built within two years. Compounding Felony.—Attorney General Evarts has declared that every compromise made in the case of a seizure under the internal revenue laws was a fraud, and the parties implicated were guilty of compounding a felony. ; It is stated that compromises have I been made with no less than seven teen whiskey firms and more than a hundred houses of tailors, clock makers, bootmakers, and others. The Saturday Evening Post.— i This old and favorite paper has : been enlarged and beautified, and :is now one of the best, as it is much the cheapest of the first- : class weeklies. Its literary contents are of the most interesting I character. The historical story of “The King of Gamblers,” i by Miss Mublibach, possesses alike I great interest and a sound moral. ' A novelet, by Miss Douglas, call i ed “Cut Adrift; or Tide of ■ \ Fate,” will shortly be commenced | —to be followed by other novelets - from other talented authors. The iirafts which searching cold makes upon the vital powers of the debilitated ' are not less severe than the drain upon i 1 their strength caused by excessive heat. The vast desparity between the temper- I ature of over-heated rooms and offices, at this season, nnd the fridgity of the outer air, is a fruitful source of sickness, i To fortify the body against the evil con- ’ seqm-ncea of the Sudden alternations of heat and cold referred to, the vital organization should be s’rengthened and endowed with extra resistant power by the ttS3 of a wholesome inz'gornnt; and, of all preparations for tais purpose, (Vhether embraced in the regular pharmacopoeia, or advertised in the public Journals,) there is none that will compare in puritvand excellence with 1103I TETTER'S STOMACH BITTERS. Woman.-- females, owing tothe peculiar and important relation* which they sustain, their peculiar organization, and the offices they perform, arc subject to many sufferings.— Freedom from these contribute in no small degree U> their happiness and welfare, for none can be truly happy who are ill. Not only so, but no one of these various fenfale complaints can long be suffered to run on without involving the general health of the individual, and ere long producing permanent sickness and premature decline. Nor is it pleas ant to consult a physician for the relief of these various delicate affections, and only upon the most urgent necessity will a true Woman so far sacrifice her greatest charm as to do this. The sex will i then thank us for placing in their hands simple specifics which will be found es- , ficacious in relieving and curing almost every one of th<se troublesome com- i plaints peculiar to their sex. Helmbold’s Extr act of Brcnv.—Hundreds stiffer on in silence, am! hundreds ! of others apply vainly to druggists and doctors, who either merely, tantalise I them with the hope of a cure or apply ! remedies which make them worse. I would not wish to assert anything that ■ would do injustice to the afflicted, but I am obliged to say that although it may be produced ftom excessive exhaustion of the powers of life, by laborious employment, unwholesome air and food, profuse menst-nation, ilie use of tea nnd coffee. , and frequent childbirth, it is ar oftener ; caused by direct irritation, applied to the mucous membrane of the vagina itself. 8 When reviewing the causes of these distressing complaints, it is most painful to contemplate the attendant evils conseqnsnt upon them It is but simple justice to the subject to enumerate n few of the many additional cutises which so largely affect the life, health, and happiness of woman in nil classes of society, ami which, consequently, at- ; feet more or less directly, the welfare of the entire human family. The mania ; that exists for precocious education ind marriage, causes the years that nature designed for corporeal development to be wasted ami perverted in the restraints of dress, the early confinement of school, and especially in the unhealthy excitement of the hall-room. Thus with the body half-clothed, ami the mind unduly excited by pleasure, perverting in miilnight revel the hours designed by nature for sleep and rest, the work of destruction is half accomplished. In consequence of this early strain upon her system, unnecessary effort is required by the delicate votary to retain her situation in school at a later day. thus aggravating the evil. When one excitement is over, another in prospective keeps the mind morbidly sensitive to impression, while the now constant restraint of fashionable dress, absolutely forbidding the exercise indispensable to the attainment and retention of organic hen Ith and strength; the exposure to night air; the sudden change of temperature; the comple'e prostration produced by excessive dancing, must, of necessity produce their legitimate effect.— At last, an e»rh- marriage caps the climax of misery, and the unfortunateone, hitherto so utterly regardless of the plain dictates ami remonstrances of her delicate nature, becomes an unwilling subject of medical treatment. This is but a truthful picture of the experience of thousands of our young women. Longliefore the ability to exetcise (he functions of the generative organs, they requ.re an education of their peculiar nervous system, composed of ohat is called the tissue, which is. in common with the female breast and lips, evidently under the control of mental emotions ami associations at an early period of life; and, as we shall subsequently see. these emotions, when excessive, lead, long before pnbeiity, to habits which sap the very life of their virtim" ere na- | ture has self-compl«tcd th-ir devolop- ! inent.
