—T ' ■ Kmvfooted Nannie, Where have you been? “Chabinglhe sunbeam*] Into the glen: > Plunging through silver lakes After the moon; L Tracking o’er meadows The footsteps as June.” Sunny-eyed Nannie, What did you see? “Saw the fays sewing Green leaves on a tree; Saw the waves counting The eyes of the stars; Saw cloud-lambs sleeping By subset's red bars.” Listening Nannie, -What-did you heir? “Heard the rain asking ” The rose to appear; Heard the woods tell When the wind whistled wrong; Heard the stream flow Where the bird drinks his song." Nannie, dear Nannie, .0 take me with you, To run and to listen And see as you do. “Nay, nay; you must’borrow My ear and my eye f i Or the beauty will vanish, — The music will die!” When Thou’rt Sitting. When thou'rt sitting sad and lonely In, thy home beside the sea, Dost thou ever, though ’ tis only For the moment, think of nje? When the evening shadows darken, And the heart-ray is a blase, Dost thou ever pause to hearken For the tones of other days? Beading in each glowing ember 1 Stories of the buried past; Dost thou, darling, then remember Joys which were too bright to last? Give me answer, for I'm longing, Longing, sweetest, so to know If through memory's hall is thronging Visions of the long ago. & tiousdioli i Pop overs—One eg?, a piece of ; butter the size of a walnut, a little ; salt, one cup of milk, one of flour. The Country Gentleman says ■ ' “We know a cultivator who had ; heavy crops of plums for seventeen years in succession—his swine for these seventeen year, without a season’s interruption, ° being allowed the run of the yard, j The Horticulturist says that the best manure to mingle with 1 the clay loam and sand in prepar- , ing soil for potting of roses, fus-1 vhias, geraniums, etc., is clean rot- : ted cow manure. If well and' thoroughly decayed, one ‘ part to every three may be safely used. It is said that a small quantity of sunflower seed mixed with the food of a horse, will impart a fine . gloss to his eoat. and is a sure cure for founder if given immediately after that disease Is discovered. When given as a remedy a- ! bout one pint of seed should 5 be ■ mixed with oats or other feed. - A Hamburg N. Y., farmer, who ! has had large experience in feeding cabbage and turnips to cows says his practice is to feed imme diately after milking—never before—and he has never been tronb- i led with the milk being flavored. He also says he feeds turnips whole, with the tops on. as there is no danger from chokeing when fed in this way. A tract of five acres of land in Bullock county Georgia, was pre pared this year by thorough plowing to the depth of fifteen inches, enriched by the application ofoOO pounds per acre of a mixture of Peruvian guano and the phosphates, and worked at least once a week. The hill aystenr was adopted, and the yield was fifteen bales of clear, beautiful cotton of fine quality, each bale weighing 500 pounds. Imitation Corn Starch Pudding —One quart of milk aud a little salt; thicken one-third of the milk to a thick, smooth paste with flour nnd the eggs, well beaten, aud stir in the remainder of the milk when it boils. To be eaten cold with cream and white sugar. This is a very nice and healthy pudding, and may moulded if one wishes it. Hip your moulds in cold water, before putting the pudding in, as then it will come out very nicely. A correspondent of the Cotintru Gentleman recommends the following mode of treating the wounds made on fruit trees when large limbs are taken off. Cut off the limb ear ly in the spring smooth with the body—the new wood forms a ridg® that year around the cot The following spring lav the wood bare on this ridge, which makes the wood and bark push forward over the wound the second sea*on.
