Preaching.—Rev. M. S. Morrison, President of the Methodist Protestant Conference, of the State of Indiana, is expected to preach at the M. E. Church, on Saturday evening and Sunday, June 6th and 7th. Church Dedication. —The Bap tist church at Monmouth, was dedicated on last Sabbath, iu the presence of a large congregation. Eifler Stevens, of Fort Wayne, delivered the discourse, assisted by Elder Edmunds, of Vanwert, and Elder Barber, the pastor. Interesting Article. —We have fjuite a lengthy and interesting article from the pen of Messrs. Crabbs, Moses it Rice, entitled J ‘Dry Goods, Carpets, Clothing, Ac.” This is a subject of no little interest to the people in these times of high prices and little money.— They handle their subject in an able manner, and we ask onr renders to give it a careful perusal. The Hardware Tradl.-t-Wc call attention to the advertisement of A. Crabbs & Son., in to-day’s paper. They have received large additions to their stock recently, and are now prepared for the Summer trade. On and after the Ist day of July next they will close their books, and positively sell for < 'ash only. This will be a material benefit to buyers.
New Grocery Store.—Frank Miesse wishes us to say that he is Opening ont the largest stock of Groceries ever brought tp this town, which he is Selling lowere than any other house. ’ Having a dopted the cash system he will sell for Cash onty. No credit under any circumstances. Country pro duce w’ill be taken in exchange for Groceries. Frank has good cos fee nt 25 cts., sugar at 13 cts., and suit fish at 6 cts. per pound. Everything will be kept on hand usually found in a first class grocery. • s Call and see for yourselves, and remember the terms —great® bargains for Cash. Hon. D. Studabakkr.—Welenrn that the Hon. David Studabker, of Adams county, has consented to the use of his name before the Judicial convention, called to meet at Fort Wayne on the 6th of June, as a candidate for the Comman Fleas Judgeship. Mr. Studabaker is a gentleman of the strictest integrity, and occupies a prominent position as a lawyer. The nomination could not he conferred upon a worthier gentleman, or one who could bring more legal erudition to, or reflect credit upon the dignity of the Bench; and there is no one that we could more cliecrfully support. The above complimentary notice is taken from the lliihtingtoh Democrat. Mr. Studabaker's friends here endorse nil the Democrat has said, and would be much pleased to see him receive the nomination, if it cau lie honorably secured for him. Ba oil al Convention.—The Radicals of this County held a Convention last Saturday, nominated a County ticket, selected delegates to attend their Congressional Convention, at Union City, and resolved—at least Dandy Jim did, to his satisfaction, that he Would “jine the Dimocratic” party if they would permit him td Im? tied connubially to a female Africanus, or something to that effect, €tc. The attendance, as usual, was Very slim—a corporal's guard, and ■went about their business as if performing a very discagreeable duty, and was devoid of any enthusiasm whatever. 'Fhe following ticket was noim in a ted : Calvin T. Dor win, Treasurer; Thos. J.-Hillianl, Sheriff; - m - D. Turner, Comr. Ist Dist and Tigblman Rawky, Comr. 2d Dist The above is our report, after several days dilligent inquiry, and if incorrect we will take pleasure in rectifying any mistake we may have made.
The Herald of Heath for June is largely given to that most important subject which has received so little correct attention and proper treatment, “The Rearing of Our Children”— a subject so fraught with deepest interest, 1 that many talented persons are spending their lives andgnoncy in foreign lands in preparing themselves for the benefit of our children. Miss Peabody, who writes on the Kindergarten Schools of Germany,” is among that number. Mrs. Horace Mann teaches “The Care of Little Children the Editor discourses on “Our Children,” and Mrs. E. Oakes Smith tells of Rocking Cradle” Its other contributors are A. B. Street, Mrs. L. F. Fowler, H. W. Beecher, Dr. Feet, Phoebe Cary, Mrs. D. 11. Prime, Prof. Browne, Mrs. Dr. Gleason, etc. —a list equaled by few contemporaries. 82 per annum ; 20 cts. per number. Miller, Wood & Co., Publishers, 15 Laight Street, New York. Two Horses Stolen —On Monday night two horses were stolen in the neighborhood of Shanesville, Ohio, from a Mr. Bevington and McCaleb They were ttaced to this place, by following the truck of the horses, where the trace was lost. The pursuers, however, proceeded to Ft. Wayne, and the surrounding towns, leaving a description of the horses. By this means the thieves were recognized and taken into custody at New Haven, Allen Co. Messrs. 1). Casto, of Willshire, and H. Guy, of Shanosville, hearing of their arrest proceeded to New Haven and took charge of thieves, and reached this place on their way to Ohio, Wednesday night. The thieves are both young men, who gave their names as John Stopher and Joseph Gilbert, and claimed to reside in Dekalb Co., Ind. It seems that they took to the woods near the old Reynolds farm, Tuesday morning, carefully concealing their horses, ana got tjjeir dinner at Mr Sipes, a farmerin that neighborhood. Tuesday night they were overtaken by the rain near the farm of Mr. Mallonee, in whose barn they took shelter. The flashes of lighning revealed a couple of saddles, which they appropriated, and proceeded down the river, crossing at Muldoon's Mill, and were finally arrested as above stated.
The Sechet of Success. —The Palace of Fashion at Fort Wayne is daily growing more popular and meeting with more favor with the masses, and the question is asked hy all why is it ? A few hints to the secret and success will suffice.— First, no old Fogies arocohnected with this company; 2nd, they carry one of the largest stocks ever seen west; 3rd, their style of business Suits the masses; 4th, they* arc the only company in the state who conduct the clothing business in a fair and rcn'onable manner ; they have but one price and ask no more than the goods are actually worth, and the only firm in the United States who guarantee their goods as represented, in writing. No man, woman or child, can be deceived at the Palace. Some old croakers argue that the little catchpenny shops can sell cheaper because they do not advertise. Now ask the more enlightened mind!; The Palace of Fashion sales run • up to 8200,000, per year, at 10 per cent profit: They rvlcerfise, Their i neighbors, the best of them sell 820,000, at 40 per cent profit. ] They <loiit advertise. They have no set price, take all they can get, | guarantee nothing. Now readers it j is for you to decide whom you will encourage. We advise all to I give them n call. It is as much ■ amusement to stroll through their ’ Palace as it is to visit a Circus or Museum. The chairman of the Grant convention says that “The bonds of| the United States ‘are as sacred as the graves of her soldiers.” The soldiers that repose in those graves received pay for the blood in green- 1 backs. The bondholders demand pay for their shoddy in gold. Here, according to the Jacobin convention, is where thesacredncss of the thing comes in! Chicayo Times. _ • - . An express train on the Indianapolis ami Jeflersonviile railroad was robbed of 897,000 on Wednesday—no particulars.

Washington ment—Congressional—TaxBill—Grant Speculations— Cabinet Changes. Washing Ton, May 24. 68.—The man agers, acting as a committee of investigation,- have propped a preliminary report of the testimony taken, and the general work done by them since the vote on impeachment, together with a recommendation affecting their future course. The committee will hold a meeting early to-morrow, and will decide whether the report shall be presented to. the house for its ti£t:on to-morrow. A majority of the managers now here are thought to favor the presentation of the report, and on the action of the house will depend greatly the future course of the committee. A special meeting of the managers was held to-day. at which John McGinnis was preliminarily examined, on account of the urgency of the business calling him away frqm the city. His testimony. related to private telegrams which have passed between Washhington and New York. » The senators and members who attended the Chicago convention returned to-day, and will furnish a quorum in both houses of congress to mbrrow. There is a general disposition to hurry up business and effect an adjournment on the 15th of July. The officers of the national republican executive committee will meet here this week, to discuss plans of the campargn. M. ClafKti, of Massachusets, is the new chairman, and Mr. Willian E. Chandler, the new secretary of the committee. It is understood that Gen. Grant, will not immediately reply to the official notification to be made on the 26th inst. of his nomination by the Chicago convention. His formal letter of acceptance will appear in the course of the succeeding two weeks. The committee on ways and means intend to press the house to consider the tax-bill this week. It is the most elaborate measure ever considered in congress, and a great deal of discussion has already been had on sections relative to distilled spirits. If the senate finally disposes of impeachment on Tuesday and acquits the president on all the articles, the first act of Mr. Johnson thereafter will Im?, to restore Mr. Stanl»erry to office as, attorney general. Other changes in the cabinet are also promised by the president's confidential friends, at the earliest practical moment - nil m e— I —■ l ■ - • 1 A Boston match manufactory paid the Government 81°0,000 for one cent stamps this year- • $

SPSCiAL NOTICES. Frightful Prophecies Concerning the end of nil things are made by religious enthusiasts; and-on the other hand, philosophers insist that the centre of the Earth is a mass of fire —that the poles of the Earth will one day be at the Equator, and that the Sun is gradually fading! Talk like this is very-terrible; but pending such wholesale calamities, it will be as well for each merqber of society to take care of his or health, and leave the rest to Providence. The end comes prematurely to all who neglect the preservation Os that inestimable blessing. Sutler liver diseases, dyspepsia, chronic constipation or any other ailment to take its course unchecked, and it will assuredly shorten life. — It cannot be said that the means of protecting the system against the predisposing causes of disease are withheld. The constitutions and physique of the least robust may be so strengthened and fortified by a course of HOSTETTER'S STOMACH BITTERS as to render them all but invulnerable, not only tq the attacks of epidemic disorders, but also to the Ordinary complaints which prevail in all countries and at all seasons. If the immense importance of protective medication were uni vet sally understood, this incomparable vegetable antidote, which is already the most popular tonic in the world, would every where lie classctllfniong the staples of life, and no family would -dare to be without it. The time may arrive when this will 1 e the case, for every year adds hundreds of to the list of those who t:so it.
