Children’s Pictures. —Pictures of infant’s and small children are made a “specialty” at Shoaff’s new Art Gallery. Parents cannot tell how-long the dear little ones may remain with them, consequently they should procure pictures- at once. Go to Shoaff’s. Improvements.—Our citizens are busy re constructing their old buildings in the way of additions, repairs, painting, etc., and putting up new structures. Things are moving. The sound of the saw and hammer can be heard from “early morn ’til dewy eve,” in all parts of our town. “Beast” Butler in Town.—Last Saturday • night a burglary was committed that bore the ear marks of the “Beast,” and the unanimous verdict of the people sustains us iip this conclusion. During the night some burglars entered the residence of Jesse Niblick, by raising a window. Portions of the house were pretty thoroughly ransacked. The principal raid was upon his larder, from which they took several loaves of the staff of life, butter. canned fruits, a set of .spoons, and a common oil cloth carpet sack to carry their plunder in. They also secured a few dollars in “stamps,” that they found lying around loose. Mr. Niblick made an unsuccessful attempt to overhaul them the next day, but Ben is too old a thief to be caught napping. We hope “our member” will examine the “Beast's” pock- . ets for Mr. Niblick’s spoons. If I returned no questions will be 1 asked. The same night an unsuccessful ! attempt was made to enter the {Clothing store of McLean A Bro. The burglars placed a dry goods box at the rear window and commenced operations, but discover- ; ing the room was occupied they wisely decamped, content with their old-clothes. JSF'The following pretty little poem is clipped from an exchange, where it appears without credit.— We do not, at the moment, remember the author, but have an I impression that it is by John G. Saxe: WHY TRUTH GOES NAKED. 1 List ton tale well worth the car Os all who wit and s°nse admire; t Invented—it is very clenr—- ’ Some age prior to Mathew Prior. There is not a radical in the locality, and the negroes wanted some one to vote for The executioner of Madrid has assassinated his mistress.
