THE EAGLE. FRIDAY, APRIL IT. 1868. Local fle Miscellaneous. New Advertisements. Notice of Surrey—H. C. Peterson, ■w agon and Carriage Shop—J. King. 9100 Reward—Eastman & Kendall, Wet Weather.—A large &■ mount of rain has fallen in this vicinity during the week, and will very much retard farming operation. Snow Storm. —This vicinity was Visited by heavy snow storm on Easter-Sundy. The snow fell about four inches deep, and was accompanied with wind and cold sufficient for first-class winter weather. 'T' v x V -T- - — Connecticut Election*—The returns from Connecticut stale that the majority of English, the Democratic candidate for Governor, will probably be over 2,200, a gain of 1,500 over the election of last year. ■— l W — In Session.—The Board of Commissioners and Township Assessors were in session Monday and Tuesday as a Board of Equalization. No appeals from the action of the Assessors were made when they adjourned.
Short of Paper.—Owing to an increase in our subscription list we were unable to furnish quite a number of our subscribers with a copy of last weeks paper. We mention this that the disappointed will understand why they did not get their paper. A New Establishment.—John King has recently started a new wagon and carriage manufactory in this place. He is prepared to put up wagons, buggies, harrows, or anything else in his line, as cheap as “any other man.” Repairing done on short notice, and all work warranted to be as represented. See advertisement in another column. Spring Goods. —Messrs. J. G. Flcdderman Co., at the “Union Hall Clothing Store," No. 25 Main Street, Fort Wayne, have received a large and handsome stock of piece goods, consisting of Fancy and Plain Cassimeres, French Cloths, Doeskins, Vestings, Linen Goods, <fcc., which they will make up to order in the most fashiona- • ble styles. A good assortment of Ready-Made Clothing and Gents’ Furnishing Goods can always be found at this establishment. Call and see them. Terms cash and prices low. A Common Inquiry.—There is no inquiry more common for a stranger to make when entering a strange place than “which is the best P house to stop at. ?” Away from home, when we find a house with excellent accommodations, with aquietand attentive Host we feel grateful for the accommodations and attentions we have received, and mention the matter to our friends that they may profit by •our experience. For these reasons we recommend the Avalinc House, Fort Wayne. Under the present ;management, it is well worthy of patronage, and we take pleasure in giving it publicity. The “Social Evil.”—An elderly married woman, from “over the river," a Mrs. Bryan, who to look -at one would naturally suppose had arrived at the age of discretion, and had forrgotten the temptations of the flesh, filed her affidavit before Esqr. Grim, that in a period not remote she would become the mother of an illegitimate child, the result of illicit commerce with Thomas Walls. It is not often we mention these visitations of the “social evil,” "but as the lady in question volunteers to give the matter publicity and seems to court notority, we wish to gratify her and at the same time give her credit for honesty, ■unless there be other deeper and hidden motives in making the as Bdarit she did. than is first apparent At all events, it is a new phase of social life that has from KO Hie | cause drifted to the surface, and —e. ** u.«-_ wwviub au ap IHUSHaUUU 01 IQ? easy virtue, profligacy and lioen tiouaness of the times, and which neither “points a moral or adorns a tale "
Southern Journal of Music.— We would again call attention to this invaluable journal to all lovers of music. The March number contains two excellent pieces, choice poetry, musical news and gossip that cannot lail to be attractive to the musical reader.— Subscription 81. Address Wm. McCarrell, Louisville Ky. Shade Trees.—Several of our citizens set a good example in the way of planting out shade trees last spring. Others are preparing to follow their example, and if our advice would be taken each side of our streets would be set out with shade trees this spring. In a few years they would add much to the beauty of our streets, and their friendly shade would amply repay the trouble of planting them out. Primary Election.—We have corrected the tablar statement of the vote cast at the Primary Election and give the official vote of the different townships as reported to the Central Committee, with the exception of Blue Creek, which has not been received, and which we give as reported to us. In addition Assessors were nominated in the townships as follows ; Union, William May; Root, Noah Baxter; Preble, John Yfeager; Kirkland, Joseph Steel; Washington, Harlo Mann; Monroe, Robert E. Smith; French, Alonzo Sheldon ; Hartford, John W. Runyan; Wabash, David McDonald ; Jefferson, William Ketchum. Where the Money Goes. The Nigger Bureau military organization down South numbers 18,000 men, and costs 8117,000,000, annually. The Bureau costs as much more, and the nigger conventions will cost a like sum, ma king, in round numbers, 8350,000,000, yearly, for all this wretched compound of and despotism. The North pays the bill. It pays it to elevate the nigger and depress the white man.— It is sweating and toiling, ami starving the masses to furnish means to the Radical power to perpetuate its despotism, and turn this country into a Mongrelized monarchy.— Fort Wayne Democrat. ,
Political Millennium Promised, —The New York Independent, Radical, lays down the programme of the future. It says : " •‘The American ‘white male citizen,' who receives such honorable mention in all our State constitutions and statute laws, is a thief.— He has robbed both woman and the negro of their right of suffrage. Public sentiments has already com polled hinßio make restitution in part ; chiefly to to the negro. Pub lie sentiment is begining to demand that he shall make restitution also to women. After the trial of A. Johnson shall have been decided, we hope the next case in order will be‘Woman and the negro vs. the white male.” MAHRILD, April 2d, by V. D. Bell Esqr., Mr. John Ashbaucher to Miss Melissa Bollinger. April 12, by the same Mr. Perry Andrews to Miss Matilda Shearer. March 26, by the Rev. C. B. Tharp, Mr. John T. The wear and tear of life tells upon us all more or less. What are we but machine-?-. The vital principle is the motive power that keeps the human engine in motion; but as beams, pistons, connection pipes, condensers and boilers wear out, so do organs, muscles, tissues and all the compound parts of that marvelous piece of work called MAN. The mechanism of the body requires to be lepaired and strengthened just as much as the mechaniem employed to grind corn, or spin cotton or weave cloth, i Steam cannot drive a broken shaft, or a wheel that is out of gear; neither can , the vital force act through a paralized limb, or an inert organ. Are you wearing out? Do you feel that any one of your organs—your stomach, liver, bowels, nervous system, or any other essential part of your organization, falters in its works? If so, repair the damage with the most powerful. yet harmless, of invigorants, HOSTETTER'S STOMACH BITTERS. ReI member that debility is the “Beginning of the End '—that the climax of all weakness is a universal paralisis of the 1 system, and that such paralysis is the immediate precursor of death. Don't wait for disease to commit its ravages before yon commence the I strengthening process. Keep the whole body in a vigorous condition by preventing, as far as possible, the inroads of decay. Repair the waste of nature with nature's best tonic—HOSTETTERS BITTERS.
