THE EAGLE.J ■ oerierAi VAPEtoF tm: county. LOCAL & MISCELLANEOUS. FRIDAY, March 23, 1868. Agricultural Society. The friends of /Agriculture, and i'l feel an interest in the re-orgainzi tion of the Adams county Agricultural i Society, and the holding of an annuali ( ■County Fair, are requested to meet at 1 the Court House in Decatur, Saturday, ( March 24th, 1866. for the purpose of , effecting an organization. V> e ask our I .nbrcnbers who read this notice to come ■ t thems'dvns: to mention it to their neigh I bors, and induce others to come, and the ■ , Adams county, Agricultural Society will I wall be re-established on a lasting basis, i Citizens in Council —The Board of , Trustees of the town of Decatur requested the citizens to meet at the Clerk's Office, Wednesday night,March 21st,for the purpose of a general expression of opinion in regard to purchasing a Fire Engine or leaking some other provision (or the ex ‘iinguishment of tires. In consequence of the short notic< given of the meeting, the attendance wa° small; hut after a gen' ral expression of opinion it was concluded that an efficieni Hook and Ladder company would b* more servicable and less expensive than a Fire Engine, in which, we think, a large rasjoiity of the citizens will concur. After their arrest t-icy con versed together in French, and r. pre_ g-nled themselves from various from northwestern Ohio, friom the description of the parties and horsts, it is strongly suspicioned in this community that the horses are those of Mr > hoUier. and that bis son-in law, Frank Pm and John La F mt, who disappeared about the i«me time the horses did are the guilty parties. The thief or thieves succeeded in getting between two and three hundred dollars in money, which bad bten carelessly left in the drawer, and made good their escape without raising anv alarm. Mr. Prentice was absent at the lime leaving I.is wife in charge. As vet there is no definite clue as to who committed the robbery. Mr. Prt mice is a crippled soldier, and his circumstances are su:h that the loss he has sustained will be severely felt by him.

Decline in Prices.—The New York Sun n >t‘-s that last w- ek the decline in wholesale pricss. was greater than lin any week since the present dow waid mov nieut commenced, and j says. I Standard domestic manufactures in i the dry good market receded in price about twenty per cent., and the average reduction in imported goods was I probably not less than twenty-five per ' cent. Even at these reduced rates sales | were very meagre, and it is quite proba ' ble ihat the decline will continue during i the present week In other branches of . trade there has also b en a material re I duction in prices, although the percen : tage of decline has not been so u liform jas in the dry goods market. It is ev- ’ ident that prices are now rapidly gravitating toward real values. j The Boston Commercial says: “There never was so much alvei manifested by any party before concerning i the danger of being thrown out of power, I as by the Republican leaders at the present time. Every thing must tend to the i perpetuation of their party supremacy.
t he Union can not be restored because it is feared this will lead to the defeat of the Republicans at the next election. Even specie payment must not be resumed for the same reason. A writer in the Tribune says, if government contracts th- currency, we may have a very serious ciisis, which will stop business, reduce the revenue greatly, and probably sweep the Republican party outol power. ‘ The New York World says: “The desperate project of Stevens, Forney & Co. to carry Pennsylvania against Mr. Johnson and make Forney senator, encounters its chief obstacle in the popularity of the President. Stevens’ exhibition of buffoonery and h-irlequinism in the House, on Saturday, is a recognition of that obstacle, and an expedient to surmount it. Who can refute a joke? An i yet what passes in Washington for a joke too grotesque for anything but deiisive laugh ter is m-ant to bn circulated in t'.e rural districts of Pennsylvania as a denial o the genuineness ot President Johnson’s scathing speech.” The New York Herald says that “ev try radical member f Congress has a new plan of government fir the United S ales in his pocket, or has offered one to the House Judging from the proceedings in Congress alone, from the view taken of the country by the radical party, we might suppose it wts in the condition that France w is in when a new conatitui -n was suggested every diy, aud a new one adopted once a fortnight.” Marriags anl Celibacy. 4 N UNSAY OF WUIATNG AM) IV- . 1 SI RUCTION' FOR YOU.Vfi MEN.
