TIUE EAGLE. O«*T<MALrArXAOF THE COUNTY. bOCAL & MISCELLANEOUS. FRIDAY, January 12, 1866. «' Most of our friends in the country tire not aware that a new institution ha s sprung up in our midst within a few weeks. We refer to the new Drug Store, which is being fitted up by Bollmam and AdelafkßGxa. The}’ will have things “fiied tup” io a few days, everything in its plaee. Theirs promises to be a mode! of Its kind, and will well repay a visit. J»*Hogs have been selling during the week for 8 cents gross, for heavy, and 10 cents nett. But Wednesday morning they dropped down with scarcely any buyers to be found. To-day, Thursday, they are worth 7 cents gross; dressed are worth $8 75'»)9. QT The light receipts at the county treasury is an evidence that financial] "'matters are tightening up; that the days of pocket-books with an excess of green-1 1 backs has passed. Os over 856,000 on i the tax duplicate of this county, only j some 88,000 has been collected up to the I present time. At this rate of payments | there will be no end to delinquent taxes. J "The people are willing to pay, but have j ■not the means, and this with millions of
.currency in the country in excess of the legitimate demands of trade. The evidences are accumulating that "‘bard times” are upon us, and to safely outride the gathering storm, we advise nil to keep out of debt, and economize. At present the country is overshadowed with a greenback eclipse, and we feel sure •when it passes nway, the people if they are observing, and their necessities will make them so, will be able to see who iiai been taking toll at Uncle Sam ’» mill. Jt-gT Mr. George Numbers and N. Blackburn, contemplate erecting a saw mill on the site of Nuttman & Crawford’s old ashery, at an c-rly day. Jt-tfC Mr. George Long, and his wije, both died on Friday last, at their rest- . dence, in Hoot Township; but few hours intervening, and were buried on Sunday. They were quite an aged couple, and were among the old residents of the county. Mrs. Long bled to death from ! the effects of a cancer; Mr. Long died from an attack of acute Bronchitis which though not necessarily fatal in itself, coupled with the excitement caused by the death of his aged partner, so affected him that he lived but a few hours after the death of his wife. Both were buried in the same grave. Their funeral "»er ] vices were conducted by Rev. E. W. Erick. W M rs. Henry Martz of this coni ty, ' presented iier husband with an heir, on the 31st of December, and on the Ist of January another. D. 374. f Whereas, by the death of our lah brother “Edward Metzger” who Las beer . called, by the Great Spirit, from the built- . ing ground of his father, Therefore it is proper and right that . we should tender to the friends and rela- , lives of our deceased brother our sympathy in their bereavement. Therefore, be it resolved, that we unite with them in weeping over this sad calamity which has removed from them a brother and a friend. Resolved, That recognizing the great truth, that nothing comes by chance but j that all things are ordered or allowed by him that rules the universe, we bow beneath this dispensation in submission to his will. Resolved, That in token of respect for the memory of our late brother, “Edwin Metzger,” that the brothers wear the usual badge of mourning and the charter of the Tribe, be draped for the space of ■ 30 days, and a oopy of these resolutions be forwarded to his friends and relatives ' of the deceased. Beware of Ambuscades! Few people realize the fact that disease lies in .ambuph every where, ready to seize upon the weak. The strong pass through many perils in safety, the strengthlew fall by the wayside. | It is amazing that the feeble should totter I with uncertain steps over the face of the earth in danger every day of falling victims to the morbid influences by which we are all surrounded, when a tested and proven vegetable tonic, capable of endowing them with the vigor they need, is procurable in every city, town, and settlement. It might reasonably be thought that after the twelve years’ experience which the world has had of Hostetter's Stomach Bitters, all would know that its effect is to prevent disease. The fact, is notorious that a dose of poison which will scarcely affect a vigorous man in pefrect health will kill a weak one. Now, what is thecause of epidemic diseases? Poison in the air. At this season the atmosphere is surcharged with the seeds of intermiltents, remittents, rheumatism, pulmonary disorders, bilious complaints, and the like. Persons whose nervous systems are relaxed are the first to succumb to these distempers. Biacc up the physical energies then, with this potential vegetable tonic. It is the most pow erful recuperant which the botanic kingdom has ever yielded to patient research and experiment. Try it. The blindest disciple of the old medical dogmas will at least admit j that a tonic and alterative, compounded of ] approved herbs, roots, and barks, can do no! harm, while the testimony of thousands invites a trial of its virtues.
