Spencer,' formerly of this city, and his command at, Tecumseh Landing, Mississippi Mr. Spencer first vo'unteered in the 2.5th lowa regiment in 1862, and was with his regiment .at the seisin of Vicksburg, where he was wounded. About four months ago ho wn* appointed to a command in the Ist Mississippi 'colored) regiment While on a foraging expedition recently, he. with h; ; command was captured by the guerrilla; the neg oes were massacred at once, after which S'enw; was taken out and deliberately shot by , the inhuman sang ‘s. He was .a good and brave officer, highly esteemed by all who I new him, was the son of the late James Spencer, of Decatur. and brother of Mrs. Moses Jenkin son of this city —Fort Wayne Daily Gazette, Ma ch 12. ’ • The remains of the deceased was b -o ight to his brother’s, W.
