Nuttman as a Bank where he is prepared to accommodate his customers at short notice and upon the most reasonable terms. orThe new reverend says the time was when to be called an abolitionists was a disgrace, but thank God the sting was gone. Just so with the thief, when he first began stealing he felt the stings of remorse, but as he became hardened in crime, remorse to him had lost its stings. He talks like one experienced. ■ ' — 1 - - - « I 7TJ» t f I - • new import, in his sermon on the Eagle last Sunday evening, said that he had never been lied on before. We are sorry that he admits those reports that were in circulation some ten years since were true, we had hoped, for the credit of the church, that they were false. Weeupjiose that he had forgotten about the time that he left tliis State and went tn lowa. how pious men will pray fui their own destruction! The import, on last Sunday evening, prayed that all enemies ot this government might be swept off’the universe. Now everybody knows tliat he, as an unconstitutional abolitionists, is as great an enemy to this government as Jeff. Davis himself. May Lord answer his prayer, and bless this community. new reverend says that if you ! shoot into a flock of birds the ones that are hit will flutter. From the way he fluttered recently it looks remarkably like he had been shot. He says that God forgot to make the man that he is afraid of.—Query—Does he fear God or the devil! One thing certain his bombast and bravado will go * great ways in restraining men to brotherly love and mutual tenderness. Otline of his last sermon:—Text:—■ Headquarters— Division of subject: ’ Newscarriers—Newspapers—slanderers ' —His own defence: abolition politics will do for the pulpit and the hungry flock. No doubt they went away spiritually refreshed.

War News. The riehmond Dispatch antes that Jeff. Davis received a dispatch on the 31st ult., announcing that Gen. Dick Taylor had completely routed General; Banks taking 8,000 prisoners. The I same paper liaa intelligence that the Fed-: erals were recently repulsed at J tekson,; N. C., and returned to Plymouth; and < that the recently destroyed railroad bridge, over Tar River has been rebuilt, and trains, are running, as usual. A Fortress Monroe dispatch claims a Federal, victory at Jackson, N. C. The greater portion of Lee’s A rmy' occupies a position between Rapidan' Station and Orange Court House. Th« rebels are sending supplies to Fredericksburg, indioating au intention to occupy that point in force. The Army of : the Potomac is inactive,-and it is thought ! that it will make no movement of coni .equeoce for some time to come. A rebel ! reconnotasance wag made on Monday |to th® vicinity of Kelly’s Ford, on the i Rappahannock; the party was driven ;back. The rolling atock of Mississippi railroads is being transported by ’.he rebels > into Georgia, byway of Mobil®. The garrison of Mobile numbers, it is said, less than 3.000 men, and the belief is entertained that a l»nd attack will speedily, secure, the reduction, of the city. An abolition paper at Muscatine, lowa gives an account of a collision between ■‘codperheads" and abolitionists, in Keokuk country, on Saturday last. It reports that some fifty shots were fired three men killed, aud that the Sheriff of the county, was in route to Davenport for military assistance 1,500 armed insurgents having gathered, whose numbers were hourly increasing. Groen Clay Smith and Rrutus J Cay, administrationists, are elected to Congress from the 6th and 7th districts, respectively, of kentucky. We have no statement ns to the result in the other districts; but if supporters of the administration are not choked therein, it will certainly not b® the fault of Gen. Butuside and his coadjutors. It is rumored at Washington that Jeff Davis is about to raise a large army of “American citizens of African, descent;” but the ruoirr, is not generally, credited. William L. Ynncey is dead and John B. Floyd is so ill that hie recovery is not expected. Gen. McClernand disgusted nt the I non-appreciation, of his service, has ten-id.-ml his “immediate and unconditional , resignation.”'What n pity! W. T. Wiley and P. G Van Winkley have been selected to represent the bogus State, of West Virginia in the U. S. Senate. The Board of Trade excursionists left Detroit yesterday morning, and reached I Toronto during the afternoon. At the | latter place they partook of a dinner i given by the Grand Ttunk Railway, at which address were made by various ; gentlemen. The party were to leave Toronto, last evening, for, Kingston, whence they would take steamer to Mon- | treal. By an arrival at Levenworth from the Upper Missouri we have intelligence that , the Indiana in that section of country are extremely hostile, there not being a place where a white man is safe. One stvam--ler had three of its crew killed by the savages; another was horded and robbed and a third, which had got aground, it was feared would be burned.— [Chicago Times, 5 h.
Mr. Stanton was reported as saying, a year ago, when the call for 300,000 men by draft was issued, that ibeeall would be enforced, whether the men were needed or not, ns a means of demonstrating the power of the Government. Not a few think he is now acting, in the same, spirit which he then exhibited, and that, but for a desire to exhibit power of the machinery which he handles months ago a policy would have been adopted which would have secured more than soldiers enough ior all practical uses. We learn that the distinguished and popular inventor of those famous Scan- , dinavian Remedies the Blood Pills and Blood Purifier. advertised in our business columns receives nearly as manv letters by every mail as the Treasury Department. The average is more than 200 per day! His patients scattered over the broad West the Southern Slates and New England are said to reach the enormous and almost incredible aggregate of 100,000! By his patients we mean those who use his preparations as their only medicines. We persume that such a connection is without a parallel in Med-1 ical history. License Notice.
