Ad.'ms Cowry Boys.—Wo have receive I rcvvr*l letters from Indianapolis. Ihe Adams county Soldiers are in comfortable quarters, well supplied with Military Stores and comforts, plenty meat, drink and wear, and are generally injmod health and spirits. The report through the county that a number of our boys from each company were to be shot is, of course, false and all bthers of the same kind. It is Hue that one or two personshave been shot and wounded at different times while attempting to break guan! but none from onr county. These facts gave * rise tn the incredible stories circulated i n regard to the matter. They have no assurance of an ‘ exchange at all; and think it very probable that • they will remain where they* are until spring; : but tfeis is a very uncertain matter. P S.—'unce the above was in type we learn that they have already been exchanged. ♦’».< v ■" — ••• Arthur’s Home Magazine.—We have leceived the December number of this beautiful work. The Abolitionists have gained three great victories in the present war—the emancipation proclamation, the removal es Bue! and the supercedure of McClellan The hounds are valliant on paper, and Lave been tolerably successful with the soU-licaik-d powers at Washington while the signally repudiated them aad their abolition dogmas.
From the 801 li, Camp MokVo.v, Nov. 17. 1865. Editors Kagi.e:—’laving a few leisure mo . i menU and being reminded by a stray copy of i I the Eagle of a former promise, I seat myself to j f wifi 11 it. We arc at present <mn>fortably quar- ' tered in Camp Morton, which has been fitted tip I to accommodate the pan,led Indiana prisoners, of which there are several regiments in camp.— I The boys have plenty to eat. and thy didst of them have been supplied with winter clothing throughout, and of good quality. > Since the regiment re nssemf led there has I lieett considerabl dissatisfaction among the tnei!; ' many of whom refused to drill or perform guard I duty. There objections being based upon the , i ground of its being a violation of their parole. ( ' While this was their ground of complaint, 1 ' think thejr .object was to secure furloughs—; I home having many charms for the soldier in , ! their situation. These remarks ar? equally I I applicable tn other regiments of paroled men. — t These objections, however, tell to the ground 1 this morning when the regiments were assembled and addressed by Gov. Morton, who in I formed them that they were no longer prisoners that he had just received a dispatch front the War Department notifying him of the fact; and j that their destination was the Mississippi Vai-' ' lev, which was to be opened throughout its en I tire length. Re informed them that this ex : change had been effected in advance of the Har-.i per’s Ferry and other prisoners, an.l was a ' com pliment to the bravery and indomitable' i courage of the Indiana boys, exhibited cn evety battle field wl ere they had been engaged. Re i alluded to those who fought nt Richmond ami t Munfordville, informing them that those names ' should be enscribed respectively on their regi- ' mental banners, as a deserved compliment to ■ their braverv displayed on those occasions.— ■ That it was no fait of theirs that the fortune of war caused them to be taken prisoners Ro 'hen alluded to the rebellion and our present 1 prospects, which lie said were more flattering ' than at any time since the warcmnmenced, and ■ honed as did all bis hearers, that it would soon be ended and all permitted to return to their homes and toan undivided Union. The health of the boys hue generally impro , i ved; but one, I believe in the hospital, Lieut. I Browning. Lieut. Stoops is sick at. a pt irate'muse in the city, and is reported improving i tins morning. A-soon as we can get ready We will again I start Dixie ward, which will probably be in ten I days or two weeks. We will receive our arms I this week, which add to the martial spirit of the j men ami once more put new life and vigor into j them. As I write the camp of the I'flth is all c xette- i ment; the 1 >ng expected paymaster having ar rived and lias commenced p-tyinn v.s off. I, will close by requesting yon to mail ns the Ka gle regulatly; no more welcome visitor readies our camp. H■ ■ Governor Morton Wants to be a Henera!!- j The intensely active and martial Governor of Indiana, finding that he is about played out at home, and that his fellow- ! citizens will have no further desire for; his service after his present term expires' is casting round for some other field of action. He is of an aspiring . tut n. and has a very decided opinion of his own ' merits and qualifications; hence he mod- 1 estly seeks for an elevated position. A dispatch from Cincinnati to the Chicago Times, says .‘Governor Morion has gone j to Washington again on Mi'itary business ' to obtain acommandas Major General, j to date back over alt other Major Gener-| als. Ho regards himself ns the coming; j man and wants the entire comamnd of ■ all the West, with InJiatl'tpohs as head-i quarters. He will unquestionable receive | command, and continue in addition, as, Executiveof the State. It has been intimated that he is solicitimis for Seward's place as Secretary of State, also. Am- j bilious Morton!’— Fart Wat/ne Sen. Gkn Bragg’s Knitting. —ln Harrodsburg Gan. Bragg was asked whether he intended remaining in Kentucky for aconsiderable time. ‘Oh yes,’ said he, j 'I have brought my knitting with me? i : And to similar questions in Versailles, ’ Nicholasville, Lexington anti Frankfort, lan) no doubt a dozen other places, he answered in like manner. ‘Oh yes, I ! have brought my knitting with me’ Now I we should like to know whether, at the ■ hig scare Bur-11 gave him he didn’t drop a , stitch or two? i It seems strange that the rebel armies 1 should complain so much of iho want of socks when even the Generals lake their j knitting wherever they go. How convenient it will be, when we catch Bragg and Buckner, to make Bragg knit a stout pair of suspenders for the two! He need , never bo in want of yarn to work with for he can tell yarns enough any lime for all possible purposes. Pray how many . unfortunate victims did he bring with I him, of tedious knitting before they will ibe fit to do anything else?— Louisville f i Journal. t - >.,«■„ L The Chicago Journal learns from a gentleman just returned from Cairo, that ’ the river at that point has been literally < swarming with soldiers passing down the Ohio and Mississippi on transports for ■■ I some days past. Great preparations are '■ in progress in both the military and na- ' vol arms of the service in that quarter. I Gen. McClernand and Admiral Porter are getting readv fora big j 1 b. They ' expect to be in New Orleans in time to t wish th* lova! people there and of the whole Mississipp Valley a ‘Merry Christmas? The whole west is anxious fori the re-opening of the Mississippi to corn- ; merce and navigation and we believe their , 1 : wishes will ba fully gratified before New ' Yont’e- . ’
