THE EAGLE. 1 m. -ti. ■ ' --- ■ ■’*—- — a J OFFICIAL PAPER OF THE COUNTY. LOCAL & MISCELLANEOUS) JC-y An attempt is being made to organize two more companies in this county by Friday night, with good prospects I of succeeding. XV Secretary Stanton has issued an order to arrest all persons engaged in discourageing enlistments, and send them to Washington. ’ - . ... w - 11 XV The following officers were elected on the organization of Capt. Erick’s com -: puny: E. W. Erick, Captain, A. J. Hill, First Lieut, and James H. Browning Second Lieutenant. XVOnr of the old pioneers of this couuty, Mr. Vachae) Ball, died at his residence in Root township, at the advanced age of eighty years. Mr. Ball was born in Marylaud, and removed from Ohio to this State in 1832, long before the county was organized there being but some half dozen families in what now is ombraced'in this county. XV T. G. Mathen}' has been appoint- ■ ed by Gov. Morton enrolling Commissioner in this county, and now has his deputies in every township in the county. — Four hundred men is understood to be this count ’s quota, and unless they vol- , unteer, they will be drafted. We hope there will be no draft. The militia will be enrolled ready to draft by SaturdayXy Captain Erick commenced organizing a company last Saturday, and en • listed ninety-three men on that day, and and organized hie company. The company could have filled up to one hundred and one on that dav, but the roll was held open to give time lor those who volunteered to bring in their friends, that they I might go togetl er in the same company. All this was done without the aid of printer’s ink or war speeches. Some sixtyfive men volunteered before the action ol the Commission!rs relative to the bountv • ■ was known. . XyThe Commissioners of this countygive our volunteers a bounty of one hun- I dred dollars each; to each volunteer’s
wife five dollars per month, and to each child under fourteen one dollar per month, | The wives and children of those who have heretofore volunteered also receive the same as those who go under the last i c 11. The Commissioners also pay all expense of organizing the companies.— This is what wh call liberal for “Secession Commissioners,” and what is befer than all, thi-ir action in endorsed by the people. They are willing to pay, and pay liberally, all who volunteer in the defence | of their country. JtSrHou. J. P. C Shank end Albert. Banta will speak at Decatur on Saturday. As all occasion for “war speeches” to, raise volunteers will have passed away before they speak, we may infer that it will be ano parly party meeting. No doubt all will turn out nnd hear the great Radical leader, of the 1 Ith Congression- ' nl District, the man whom some of the best men of our count.v in the no party organization have declared they would never vote for. Under such circumstances, the man with a drop of Demcralic blood in his veins will go and do likewise Col. Shank can only get the support of ths Radicals of his own party in this county. Reported Capture of an Rntire Vnion Garrison at Suinmervville, Virginia. LTNCnnuRo, July 30 1862. A special dispatch for the republican, dated Narrows of N»w River, July 29. says: “The gallant Major Bailey, commonding four companies of cavalry, in all I about one hundred and fifty men, sent to the rear of the enemy by Colonel Me Causeland, stormed Summersville, the county seat of Nicholas, Friday morning nt daylight snd killed and captured the entire garrison, including the Lieutenant Colonel commanding, named Starr, three other commissioned officers and sixty-two non-commissioned and privates—killing a number A few prisoners were paroled.
