THE EAGLE DECATUR, THURSDAY, JUNE 12,’62. , ■ OFFICIAL PAPER OF THE COUNTY. , WMIM - —t- - , LOCAL & MISCELLANEOUS. tJT We are under obligations to Hon. D. W. Voorhees, for various favors, in the way of public documents. X3T B. Collins, and Dr. D. W. Champer have t emoved their offices to the [ building formerly occupied by J. D. Nuttman as a banking office. The farmers in the vicinity Are ’ referred to the advertisement of the Summit City Woolen Factory, at Fort | Wayne. The highest price is paid in cash for wool, or you can exchange it for goods of their manufacture, of which they have a great variety. feSF The recent rise in the liver was the cause of several persons getting a ducking, at the ford below the plank road bridge, while attempting to cross last week. The experiment proved, in a couple of cases, rather too serious for a second trial. JKF C Burt, of the Burt House, left a strawberry at our office which measured five inches in circumference, and lacked but twenty grains of weighing half an ounce. Who can beat it? f If that is the kind of fruit “mine host” of the Burt House furnishes his boarders, we should not object to be quartered there. The July number of Peterson—the commencement of a new volume—has Been received. This is a beautiful and interesting number, and is a fore- * taste of what the volume promises to be. Send in your $1,25 and we will send for it—that binj the clubing price with the •‘ ° . ’ Eagle ib. — — — — I'lie latest advices from Gen. Halleck's army are up to Friday last. Gen. Pipe was some fort) - miles south of Corinth pursuing the flying rebels. He has been re-enforced by portions of Buell's and Grant’s divisions Gen. McClernand if opening up the railroad from Corinth to Columbus, while another division was , operating toward Memphis. It is the general impression that the season for aclivetoperations was over. x-y d tiring the conflagration of Canton, caused by the bombardment of the British, the extensive medical warehouse of our. countryman. Dr. .1. Ck Ayer, of Lowell, (the depot i>l his Cherry Pectoral and Cathartic Pills, for China) was totally destroyed. He now makes a demand Upon our Government for indemnity from the loss of his property, and hence will grow another nut to crack with our elder brother Jonny. Stick to it Doctor; end if our Government maintains our rights wherever yonr Pills are sold, we shall only be unprotected on tracts that are very barren. — [Reformer, Trenton, N. J ». ■'■ * —■ ■ — — — • -————-■■i ■■ Communicated, To the Editor: Parson Brownlow’s card, which appeared in your columns a few days since, # is, we find, calcul ted to mislead manv in regard to the book published by us.— From his statement some who take ail things to be true found in public print, would suppose w<- had published a bogus book, which impression as regards ourrelves, would be entirely false. Therefore for the benefit of this class, and to place ourselves right before the public, we state that the work published by us consists of a portrait and sketch of the Parson, together with his last editorial in the Knoxville Whig. Also his recent epeeehess delivered at Nashville, Cincinnati and Indianapolis, in which he rehearses his experience with Secession and his prison life. These speeches were reported for and puslishad by the newspapers at the time with his knowledge, and without any objection or correction from him. Thus the public will seethe work ? CANsot be bogus and we presume the Parson eould not have seen our book before publishing his card, and thus was misled. In conclusion, jve say to one and all who are engaged in the i?alc of this 25 cent work, that il is both as genuine and legal as any work published in the UniJed States, and the parties who hare asserted to the contrary do it to deceive the’ public forselfish purposes, and hinder the sau of sx»r publication. , njj Asher <fc Co., Indianapolis Ind. 1 MARRIED— On the 5:11 inst., by John Merryman Esq , Mr. George 11.
