THE EA RLE. DECATUR, THURSDAY, MAY 22, 'll?. - OFFICIAL PAPER OF THE COUNTV. LOCAL & MISCELLANEOUS. t-t?' That ever welcome visitor to our table, Arthur's Home Kfug’Fztiie for June lias been received. Arthur will be a favorite so long as it is in the hands of its present managers Virginia F. Townsend and T. 8. Arthur.' Jfy Gody for June has been received. It is most superbly illustrated, and contains the usual variety of patterns, reading matter, etc. JCy The weather for several days past has been of a temperature supposed to be found in the neighborhood of the North Pole—decidedly cool jCy We observe considerable uneasiness manifested bt many Well informed journals, in regard to European interference with our affairs. It is probably mostly of a sensational character, and will soon pass away. It is now too late 'o attempt th"' game; that time has passed away. ftt!d ; all rumors of the kind will soon fail to uttr act more than a passing notice. Jack Studabaker has sued the editor of the Bluffton Hanner for libel. We presume it was occasioned by the Hanner publishing the fact of Lis charging one per cent lor the delivery of packages of money sent home by soldiers We expected to hear the Press speak of the affair in censurable terms, or deny the charge, and are curious as a woman to know the cause of its silence. Come, Bro Bright, do explain the cause olyour silence. xyit is said the President will make another call upon the Stales’ for additional voluteers. It is estimated by good luilil.ny authority that our whole effective force will n,.t exceed five-hundred thousand inen. This additional force will be held as a leserve. Narrow Escape oi'Geiieral McClellan.'j New York, M*v 17 —A letter from Cumberland, Virginia, dated the 13th inst eaye an attempt was made this afternoon by the rebels oc our left to capture some of our wagons, hundreds of which line the roads between here and Buckhouse Point but I can not learn liiey have sue needed. During the time the rebels made the attack un our wagon train, General Met lellan, accompanied by his staff, was making u reoonnoisanee, and came in sight of the rebel cavalry before he was uware of'his proximity. By dint of li rd titling he escaped, and took command o what force there was at hand, and t'isper sed the rebels. It is reported here that two rebel regi men's have been cut off in their retreat by the burning of the Bottom bridge by on forces. 1! this be true, they are, i the language of Ogre, “my meat.” List of Letters Remaining in the Postoffice at Decatur, Mav 20th, 1862 Archbold Mrs. C.
