B’odgPt will ileiiver n discourse at the Presbyterian Church, Friday evening, April 25th, at early candlaJCtfFor several days we have had mild and pleasant weather, which has started forward vegetation quite rapidly. Frequent jains have retarded the operations of our farmers. A few fields of oats have been sown in favorable locations, byit generally speaking little plowing has been done. -I.—* — 11 —I jtSTA letter from Lient. Dailey to his father brings the sad news of the death of John W. Kern, at Riddle’s Point, where . had been lying dangerously’ill for some time past. When the regiment left Cairo for Point Commerce, on their way to New Madrid, he was unwell and advised to go to the hospital, but the prospect of a battle ahead was too much of a temptation to allow his indisposition to confine him to the hospital at such a time. He proceeded with bis regiment, but the exposures to which he was obliged to undergo proved wore than he was able to bear. For several years he had been empoly’d as clerk by Messrs. J. & P. Crabs, which place he resigned to serve his country. He was widely known and universally respected. Many hearts will be filled with anguish, and many eyes with tears, at the news of bis death. The follwing is the official returns of the Demoratic primary election, ns made to the Central Committee. .The returns of French township have not been received < X tcTl "J S 71 S bp » , » - • St ?.
