Jfy Toe N.-w Orleans' Picayune says Jeff. Davis will take the field in person. JtarThe official estimate of the present National debt makes it four hundred millions. The Senate was tied on the a-menilmr-nt to the District of Columbia Bill, appropriating one hundred thousand dollars to colonize such free negroes from the District as choose to go. XLiT A young son o! T. First in the catalogue is a lengthvaccount of the arrest and impi isomneit of the five persons connected with the t>b I hery of the county Treasury. They wire charged with the perpetration of fetor crimes; breaking into the house of J. L Winters, breaking into the Treasury, stealing money from J. P. Winters, and stea ling from the county Treasuty, and wen held Io bail for each, offense. The aggregate amount of bail is 8,56,000. The secon'l is the trial conviction and sentence of Nathan Ayers, to the State’, penitentiary for altering or raising genuine bank bills from a lower to a higher denomination, by a method of reduction not permitted by the laws of the State. Tiiu third and last item, is the blackest crime in the catalogue, and one deserving the infliction of the severest penalty of the law, and is no less than the commission of a nameless outrage upon the person of a Mrs Sturgis, the wife of a volunteer, and then robbing her of the , sum of seventy five cents. John Hyde of Camden has been arrested for the offense, and had a preliminary examination, and is now confined in the jail at Winchester. He has a wife and three children . His accomplice in the crime escaped, and at latest accounts has not i been airested.
