Sruui'i ali.-m.— Ihe ilostmi Courier, which has been doing good ■ mi .-■■ in cit jug the fully and dangers of those who adhere to modern ideas of spiritual developments, now says, in explanation of some peculiar plicnoraonon, that—- • There are men and women, doubtless, who "rite this communication from the dead, honestly believing'that the spirits seized their arms and guide thair hands. It is not difficult to acquire this faculty. The experiment was tried by a philosophical thinker with remarkable results.— Scribbling incoherently fur a few days, while his mind was at the same time occupying itself with a train of connected thoughts, he arrived at a point when hi-, hand moved rapidly over the paper, writing sentences, paragraphs, and whole pages of which he had no recollection, after the writing was completed. It is not very surprising that persons who fall into this habit, and who are ignorant of the abnormal action of the mind, should fancy themselves under the influence of spirits external to themselves. But when they find the utter futility of these surprising they do not begin to suspect the fallacy of their belief.’ —— — ♦<♦-«!•»■ *♦* Giving it Up. -t— Tim Evansville Jounnl. nrr opposition p iper, thus gives up Kentucky to the Democrats. It says: The Kentucky eh ction has gone 'all hollow’ for the Democrats, we presume, from the scatterin returns that have been reported to us. The Eaves reported last night that the strong old Whig counties of Davies and Br ickinridge had given Democratic majorities. Peyton is elected by a large m Jonty over Johnson to Congress. The Democratic ticket for j the Legislature in Davies and Hancock j was elected. We have had no returns - from Henderson and the counties in the ! rear of it; and, we presume, it will be unnecessary to publish details of so complete and overwhelming defeat of the opposition party. The Plug Ugly organ accounts for tb< small K. IS. Vote in Meade county by saying that the farmers were ‘engaged in sowing their oats and hav •harvest.’— it is rather an odd time of year tube sowing oats and hay, but we supposed a bad excuse is better than none.— Luu. Cour. A young gentleman having married a young widow with ? 100,000, said it was’ not his wife's face that attracted him so much us ll.e/iynri’. .— .
