By Emirson Bbnmstt, Author of ‘Clara Moreland,’ ‘The Prairie Flower,’ > • ‘Lent Leoti,’ ‘Viola,’ ‘Pioneer's Daugh- i ter,’ ‘Bride of the Wilderness,’etc. Cotnj. plete in two large duodecimo volumes, ; neatly bound in paper cover.—Price One i Dollar. The Border Rover is one of Emerson ' Bennett’s best productions, and will be . Or sure to delight all readers who were plea- . sed with the Prarie Flower and Clara '< Moreland, to which it may be considered a campanion—the scenes and incidents being something similar, and yet the sto:i ry totally unlike either of the others. The scene of the Border Rover is in the Territory of,Kansas, beginning at Indepen- ' dence Missouri, and extending all over the plains or prairies to the Rocky Mountains. It is full of thrilling adventure and hair i i bredths escapes, love, romance and hu-' mor, and the characters are trappers, traders, hunters, travelers, guides, Indians, si . , i This work is now in press and will be '*t sent to any one, Free of Postage, on remitting the price to the publisher, in a letter. Was Mrs. Cunningham Married?— We presume that the Reverend Uriah it Marvine has settled this problem by the t evidence he gave on Tuesday, before the it Surrogate. It seems now established be--5 yon 1 reasonable question that Mrs. Cun- ' ningham was the wife of Dr. Burdell, o ■who married her in Dr. Marvine’s house, in the presence of Miss Cunningham, as stated by that lady and her mother on 1 the inquest. This seems to clear the way for the prosecution to a very marked extent.- — K Had it devolved upon the Mate Prose‘■'l“ CUtor to prove that Eckel find j>t-rsvn»li-il Dr. Burdell at the marriage ceremony, he would Lave been met by difficulties of a very serious charactcd, which might perhaps have involved the ruin of the whole prosecution. This quicksand happily indicated at this early stage of the proceedings, the State officer will apply himself wholly to the narrower and less complicated question — did Mrs. Cunningham, being the wife of Dr. Burdell, compass or cause his death? The motive for the deed is now established.-.V. YHerald A Man cut in two. —The town of Benton, Indiana, a few davs since was thrown into great-excitement by a ferocious and fatal attack made by a man named Thomas E. Brake, upon a worthless fallow who had been loafing about Brake’s tvagon shop. Being hasty and hot of temper, Brake became provoked at the loafer, and taking up a broad-axe, literally chopped him in two. The murderer was arrested at once. Where ts the West? —The editor of the Presbyterian. Herald of Louisville, Ky., says that visiting Fort Leavenworth, five or six hundred suilefi west of Louisville, he said to the commander. T suppose you begin to feel, away out here, that indifinable region called die West?’ “No sir,’ said lu>, ‘we are living in the east ret. Four hundred miles iv-st of us near Fort Laramie, is the geographical centre of the United States.’ Brilliant ideas are tike shirt buttons—they are always off when we arc in ahurry-
