The Burdell murder case at New l!l York.—The lungpending investigation at New York in the Burdell murder case has been brought to a close. A New York paper of Saturday says: <!• 'The verdict of the jury hands over td Mrs Cunningham and Eckel to the grand Is jury as principals in the murder and ej Snodgrass as accessory. The result is •i universally approved. Since the close of the testimony another witness has appearof ed, who was willing to testify that he saw «, I’arrall on the stoop of Dr. B.’ s house on ft the night of the murder, and also that he (ill saw the door open with a man standing in it in his shirt-sleeves. JI ‘Dr. Woodward testified that he had tried a duplicate of the dagger purchased d by Snodgrass in Broadway, on a dead body, and found the wounds the same in i all respects as on Dr. Burdell. !r ‘ 'The jury considered Helen and Augusta Cunningham in possession of the en facts of the murder, and that it was the duty of the coroner to hold them for the n ‘ future action of the grand jury. Farrall ® is also retained as a witness, the city pro- '• viding for his family. •Anrionymous letters have been sent to the coroner threatening bis life because ol the course he pursued in the examination. It is understood that the grand jury will commence with the case immediately. 4 Extreme - Delicacy.—‘ls anything the matter?’ ‘There is, sir,’ was the host’s reply. ‘Have I given any offence?’ •You have, sir.’ rj ‘fltally, lam ignorant of it.’ ‘Such 1 tnguage won’t suit here, sir?’ •My dear sir, what language?’ :r ‘You were talking of soup?’ 1, ‘We were.’ ‘You mentioned ox tail!’ t ‘I did.’ i. ‘Thai is it,. tl.nt is it, sir! That sent the r . ladies blßsliing out of the room; that is highly improper language, which 1 never j heard at any board before, and should net er have expected it from yo’u.’ , a ‘Why,sir, I but called it by its pruner aj name! You asked me a question and 1 lV! replied. lam however, sorry that it has u given .offence, but 1 really do not know jg how I could have well avoided it.’ [Se ‘Then, sir, I advise you, when yon H have occasion another time to speak of that pecular soup, do not call it ox tail.’ ti ‘Not?’ T ., 'No, sir.’ ~ ‘But what shall I call it?’ ~e 'Fly- disperser, sir.’ The Way They Clear the Court at Toledo.—One of our lawyers, setting forth the merits of bis case before a Toledo Justice, iiad a misunderstanding with bis honor as to bis rights. Whereupon some harsh words passed between 1! ' him and the Justice, and his honor threatened to put Lira out of theCocrt, which, a after softie further words, was attempted. Our legal friend responded in eloquent i>' blows, and his argument, t’ais time, was appreciated, lie cleared the room ol ■' Justice, ar.d lawyers, and Court,- and when a cunstable was called to do what r !' his honor had failed to do, and came forh ward shaking his shillalah over the head '• of the offender he laid out this last sprig - !e of official authority.
