Hugh Stout, the largest man in Indiana, and who resides at Bluffton attended the races here last Saturday. The Misses Tina and Annie Radamacher have returned from their visit to Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio. Paddy Highland and Robert Ehinger are at Cincinnati this week attending a meeting of the Elks Lodge. Mrs. Ella Ullery of Greenville, Ohio, spent a few days in the city last week the guest of Mrs. John Mayer and family. Miss Adams, who has been the guest of L. D. Adams aud family the past week, has returned to her home at Portland. L. G. Ellingham left last Saturday noon for Chicago, where he joined Colonel Miller and proceeded to take in the convention. The deciding heat for second money in the free for all mixed race was run yesterday about three o'clock. Malestrom made the best showing in warming up. but was not in it very strong when it came to the race. Friends of both horses were on the ground and the betting was about even. Malestrom however broke three times <1 tiring the race and tinishe I atiout one hundred feet behind Royal Duke Time 2:33. About 500 people witm-ss-d the racing. This will probably call for another race as the owners and friends of both horses thinks their’s the best. After this race Cam bridge Hal, owned by Dan Beery, endeavored to pace a mile against time but his driver could not keep him on his feet. A misanthropic father oi e time brought up a son in entire seclusion from all womankind. When man hood approached he led the boy out through the. world on a tour of ob serration and described to him ti e various creatures they met. As they went, there came tripping along the path a sweet young girl, swinging her hat and smiling from the very gleeof existence. “Father”, said the startled youth, “what animal is that”! “J/y son, said the father, “that is a very silly and dangerous creature (“ailed a goose.” When this mythical tour was completed the father was curi ous to know which creature the boy would like to have tor a pet. He instantly blurted out, “Father, buy me a goose!”
