Indiana demooscy have been I heard fn m, aod the result record® them on the side of silver, sixteen to our. i'be state convention at Indianapolis th.a week waa the largest and most enthusiastic that has congregated at the state eapitol for years. There was entirely I too many people for comfort, and every one of them waa seemingly I interested on a financial platform \ that would restore the white metal to its proper place a.< a primary money. Following is the financial platform as adopted: ••We reathrtu our adherence to and faith in the democratic doc nine of bimetallism and therefore we demand the immediate restoiu tion of bimetallism by the free and unrestricted coinage of both gold and silver as primary money at the ratio of 16 to 1, without waiting the tx»-operation of Great Britain or any foreign power, all stx’h coinage to be full legal tender in payment of all debts public and private. Resolved, That we Ix'lieVe the existing tariff laws will t»e fully equal to all demands for needel reveuue for the expenses of the government economically adminis tered under the conditions which will arise from the restoration of - bimetallism. We are oppose*', to the redemption and final cancellation of the United States notes greenbacks or any other notes or *-• rtificatee issued by the United Slates to cir eulate as money, sue h redemption and cancellation necessrnly inrulr ing an increase of the public debt by the issue of bonds and reduction of currency. We demanu a sufficient stable 1 volume of money—gold, silver and paper—to meet the requirements of productive industries. I We protest against the increase of the public debt by the issue of interest-bearing bonds or other- , wise in time of pea,-e and if the redemption clause of the so called Sherman reeumpti m act of 1875 authorizes, as is claimed, the right of the treasury department to issue interest-bearing bonds without limit, without the express and ' definite authority of corgrcee. as to each ism of such bonds, we demand that this provision of suchact be un«\>ndilionally rotted. The dem cratk party baa sever believed that a public debt is a public bk-ssing. We demand that (obligations ot the government in 'every funn be presented and re deemed in conformity with the i lawn under which they were issued, in coi . gold and silver, at the [option of the verumeut of the United States and not at the option of the croiitor." Commei t» are nr.neo-s<ary. It is plait. tear, clean ard to the point and have to be read twice to l«e understood. The sound money contingent at the convention was small ... i insignificant in compar »> « h the loud demanding forces that shouted silver every apportunity offered. W. D. I Mr. Shively is an old stage cam- • paigner and* will make it decidingly I interesting for the common enemy More the campaign is over. • The Hou. John T. Fram-e was made a member of the committee • on resolutions, ami thia accounts for the good work done. The com I mittee numbered thirteen, out of I which there was but one lone gold « bug. Richard K. Erwin was also ; remembered by being made an ali ternate to the national convention at Chicago. The sehx-N'd delegate* from this district are W. H. Humphries, of Portland and Ralph (Greugory of Muacic. Hugh Dough • erty of Bluffton was deflated, and that too. after making a forcible declaration that he would stand >Joyal to thecause of silver first, last and all the time. i But m speaking of conrenious. f it was a silver aggregation and nothing on earth could head oflthr seutime. tin its behalf. Rut with > all. its advocates were cool but in earnest. They were not radical i at any point at issue, and for this received mere favorable evnsidera II tion from those opposed. The contention ended in perfect good humor, and with a determination to elect the ticket nominated by the largt«i majorities ever dug up • in Indiana for any candidates ou any ticket. The republican national convention last week nominated the tariff Napoleon, William klcKinley for presid-mt. and gave him a run ning mate in the name of Garrett A. Hobart of New Jersey. The convention was void of ail interest save and except the folk>w-.np and interret shown in the financial plank of their platform. In the faeeofa.l opposition a straight, nmxanpromising gold platfcnn was adopted, which can be found elae|where in this edition. Several state delegations bolted and left the conveatton. Octuide of the excitement of th s pan of their work, the convention waa one of the Uii.ewt ever held.
