That paper may thi ■ it’s funny now, but the time wil. come when the Sentinel editor will b“ kicking himself every day in " week, and fifty-two weeks in in year. The United .States Senate has beet organized and is officered by the republicans, yet republican new.-pa pen? —the Journal among them—frantically cries of the inten"- opposition and hatred of a dem s-ratic senate ami president. The inconsistency and galling nerve of these partisan blankets is something awful. Secretary Carlisle made a gold bug speech at Chicago recently. We always had a warm spot for the speaker on that occasion, until he refused to unite the democrats of Kentucky upon their part> nominee for United States Senator, simply because that nominee favored tree coignage of silver. The democratic party hasn't any | use for such demagogism.
Two weeks from last Tuesday our city election will t»e due. All democrats should feel a personal interest in their party nominees, and see to it that no democrat l>e allowed to neglect the matter of casting a ballot. Don't allow a mystic silence in the republican ranks to mislead you. You may rest assured that every republican vott in the city will be registered. Be s ire you vote. Wf. remember verj’ distinctly of bein ' < Hied down for crediting to ano’! 1 newspaper a clipping taken bodily and with iraliee aforethov ."it, from the newsy columns of the Portland Sun. We now very graciously return the compliment. and hope the clever maniputor of th: editorial broad knife over t ■•re, will kindly brush his intellect and remember that this pubiieatton has been christened the I’RiXS, the DeM(X:R*TICPrF>S. THE FARMERS KICK. Much complaint is being regis tend against another of the 1895 legislative laws which compels every farmer to give in to the assessor, information that any IndiI vidual considers his own private business. These questions are submitted for statistical purposes only, so say the officials who are interested in taking up this information. If this were all it would and could be used for, it would all be good and well. But it is a direct inquiry into the private business of the farmer. After these statistics are all together and compared, what ; an easy matter it would be for the i money kings, grain and stock gambiers to estimate pretty dearly the amount of grain and stock that < will Lie put upon the markets this , tall, and what an easy matter it would be too, for those corporate Wall street and other manipula-1 i tors to control those markets. The consequence will lie that the farm era will receive but a small profit for their grain and stock, while the i gamblers who have cornered the protits, will make millions of dol dars, that ought and does belong to the people in this state. Why don’t they demaud every merchant to estimate the number of yards of I calico, satins, silks, &c, sold in a year; the number of suits, hats, &c., sold by the clothier, and so on through the various channels of trade. T! er would be as much sense in it from a statistical point of view. If ever there was a law that look unjust and unreasonable,' it is this one, and were we a farmer we woul 1 kick the back of our head in denunciation of such class legislation. In our opinion the! farmers are entitled to a great big k ick.
WILD WITH EXCITEMENT--OURCITYIN A FEVER OF EXCITEMENT OVER THE WON DEUFUL CURES PERFORMED BY THE WONDER WORKER THE DEAF MADE TO HEAR, THE LAME TO WALK. Frank Geary, a helpless cripple from I’heumatism. came upon crutches. His crutches were brokI en before the audience, and he was made to walk in less than fifteen minutes. Nothing like it ever seen in De catur before. Dr. Jeffers, accompanied by a staff of Physicians and Surgeons from the Jeffers Institutes of Philadelphia and Elkhart, Ind., came among us Tuesday and are lecturing nightly to large audiences. The doctors are graceful and forcible spi-akers, and held the large audience in closest attention while they ex-1 plained the theory and usefulness of their wonderful discoveries in medical science. As the lecture progressed many promises were made for the cure of the afflicted which seemed impossi- I ble to believe, but when the doctor invited those who were hard of hearing to come foiward and be 'cured, Israel Stoneburner, an old farmer aged 70. who lias lieen deaf for 20 years came upon the stage and was made to hear in a whisper in a few seconds. The doctor then called for cripples, and Frank Geary, son of the city night watchman, a helpless cripple from that giant disease Rheumatism, came forward. The Wonder Worker told the audience that he would make the young man walk and he was taken to the sample room of the Miesse house for treatment. 1 In less than fifteen minutes he appeared walking and entirely free from pain, and as he walked along the street home the audience fairly went wild. To say that the vast audience fairly went wild would lie ■ putting it mildly. At the conclusion of the lecture the doctors were j warmly congratulated. The Won der Workers will remain in Decatur this week and may be consulted ' free of charge at the Miesse Hotel. ■ Their office hours aie from 9 a. m. to 4 p. m., nnd the rich and poor are invited to call on these eminent and successful healers. Health is far better than wealth and the doctors will frankly tell you whether they can help you. Rheumatism, catarrh, deafness, ! and chronic diseases of all kinds of j lioth men and women successfully treated and cured. Under their wondeiful science ami skill all aches and pains fade away like morning due liefore the noonday sun. No ! one can afford to be sick, and everyone should avail themselves of this opportunity. Everyone feels like putting their | arms around the Wonder Worker land welcoming him for the work i done already. It seems like a I dream, but it is real. Ministers and doctors were in the audience ! and seemed as much pleased as any. The Wonder Workers are very social and pleasant gentlemen and have completely captured our citizens. Everyone now wants to see and hear the Wonder Workers. These are not cures by “the laying on of hands,” but by science, skill and medicine.
