Burroughs, manager of the Enterprise drug store. | Miss ireta Erwin returned from Berne this morning, where she was visiting with friends and attending the C. E. convention. ' Mrs. E. H. Tunnell, formerly Mrs. Laure Van Camp of this city, now residing near Dogden, N. D., on a ranch since her recent marriage, is here visiting friends and attending to business matters. Mrs. Tunnell likes her new western home very much, and , keeps in close touch with her Decatur friends by reading the Democrat. Her daughter, Miss Beatrice, who was ' graduated a year ago from the Decatur high school, is teaching school near their home.

Mills is building a large coal shed back of bis grocery store for his winter's supply of coal. Mr. an J Mrs. Barney Melbers returned from Rome City, where they spent some time at their cottage. The fortune teller has arrived for the county fair at the Yeoman hall Friday night. Meet her there. Attorney R. H. Hartford of Portland is in the city, coming to serve as special judge in the Will Ward case. It was thought that the taking of evidence in the dynamite cases now on trial in Indianapolis, will begin today. Miss Cordula Weiland left this morning for Fort Wayne, where she will visit with Ted Waldea and family. Mrs. Edward Wilson and daughter, of Nappanee, are here for a three weeks' visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Hale. Coroner .1. C. Grandstaff of Preble was a business visitor here today. He came through about noon from Geneva. where he was called to hold the Atkinson inquest. Fred Niblick underwent a most painful operation at Monroe at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, when his ingrown toe nails were removed. He is getting along well, but will be crippled tp tor some time. Miss Effie Fox, who has been with the C. D. Engeler family for some time, returned to her home this afternoon at Berne. She has been sick for the last week with an attack of appendicitis. Two hack loads of the German Reformed Aid and Helping Hand societies left this morning for the countryhome of Mrs. James Hoffman, south oi the city, where they were entertained in a pleasing way. Mr. and Mrs. ITman of Moline, 11l , who visited here, and then went to Ohio for a further stay, have returned and will be guests of their children, Mrs. Fred Steigmeyer and Ed ITman, before returning home. Casper Lang began putting up the electric wires around the veranda oi the Murray hotel this morning preparatory to the stringing of the eight hundred feet of electric lights that will be put up for Old Home Week.
