Mrs. Samuel Howard left this morning with her brother, Mr. Ralph Spade, for a western trip, stopping off at Denver, where she will visit a sister, Mrs. Herman Swygart, and from there going to other points of inteiest In the greast west, returning home in the course of a month or so. Rene Naehrt received word from his brother, Alpbeus Naehrt, that he will arrive in this country some time the latter part of this week or the forepart of next with a load of horses to go to the lowa market. The trip is being made from Belgium and he has been on the water for more than a week. Jack Moynihan, manager oi the local branch of the Indiana Lighting company, is again receiving the compliments of his many friends from the way he transformed the dark and dreary basement of the court house to a place of light and cheeriness. Jack has completed the installation of three large gas arc lights in the basement of the building and says that people need not fear an attack from hpld-up men when they enter the basement in the future. The three lights make the place almost as light as day and is a great change from the darkened hole of the past. , Visitors to the city have passed anything but compliments on the darkened basement, but the change in the lighting was noticed quickly and Mr. Moynihan is not only being highly complimented on the improvements by the local citizens, but also by the many strangers in the city.— Bluffton Banner,

(United Press Service) West Chester, Pa., Aug. 7—(Special to Daily Democrat)— Following the suicide on a train of Colonel Gibbons Gary Cornwell, commander of the Sixth regiment of the Pennsylvania national guard, while returning here to face charges of misappropriating funds, his wife and aged father were in a state of collapse. Mrs. Cornwell said that her husband had confessed I to her that he was involved financially, but did not know as to the amount.
