President Tait Is still securing delegates about as fast as they are selected The Roosevelt boom is not even Inspiring any great amount of enthusiasm in New York, where the colonel is best known and perhaps that s the reason. Every day brings in calls for houses, rooms, some place to live While there is no way of inducing our people to build houses to rent unless they want to, it is certainly all right to suggest that it is a mighty good investment right now. Governor Marshall will be temporary chairman of the Indiana detnv-*r»t-tc convention which meets at Indianapolis March 21st, and at that time will deliver the keynote speech The permanent chairmanship will be offered to Senator John W Kern Samuel Perrctt. of the auditor of state s offic?, will be sergeant-at-arms In reducing the state tax rate at the same time setting aside money to pay on the state debt for the first time .n years, equ.pping and maintaining new benevolent institutions, paying state fair bonds and reducing an enormous republican deficit, the democratic state administration has earned the gratitude of every taxpayer in the state. While discussing other lines of trade that will benefit the community It may not be out of line to call attention to the fact that there will be an unusually large demand this year for garden truck. M ith a number of laborers' camps here, with the many strangers in town, with every house tilled. it. means that you can sell all the garden truck you will raise. In another column will be found a call for Home Missions, a call for charity that will aid Decatur people who need it. You do not need to wonder what will become of any funds subscribed to this fund, for it w .11 be spent right here at home and every penny of it will lift a burden from some poor person, sick or distressed

A few people hate taken exceptions I to our opinion -« to those who sign petition* for leniency for those convicted in court. While the filing of l>etitions is a right that no one disputes, and in some cases justified, no man, we insist, has the right to sign a petition unless he means what the petition says and then he certainly has ' no reason to ask the judge to do oth- ’ erwise. unless of course in the meantime he has changed his mind. 1 NOTICE.
